VHS : Millennium [1989]
I thought this film might have some promise from the description and comment. At the end of the end of the film and the desperately poor plot, I cannot believe I had watched it right through!!!! As a Sci Fi type film, it had little to capture the imagination, and when the end suddenly happened, I was shocked as i thought there might be so much more to the film. It was almost like watching a TV episode of something. Thumbs down for this movie from me! I cannot imagine what the hollywood stars were doing signing up to this script.

VHS : Mrs.Soffel [1984]
This is a tragic winter tale, base on the true story of brothers Ed and Jack Biddle, and their escape from a Pittsburgh jail at the turn of the century. Mel Gibson uses an American accent on screen for the first time, giving a superb performance as the handsome older brother, charming a seemingly helpless Diane Keaton until she helps them escape into the snowy covered countryside, leaving her husband and children behind.

The cinematography and locations are excellent, with suitably muted colours creating a very atmospheric backdrop, accompanied by a beautiful soundtrack.

A very moving story.

5.Joan Of Arc [1999] starring: Leelee Sobieski, Jacqueline Bisset, Powers Boothe, Neil Patrick Harris, Maury Chaykin

VHS : Joan Of Arc [1999]
Although, it sometimes gives the impression of being quite low budget, it provides a good account of the extraordinary life of Joan d'Arc. There is a good mixture between the spirituality of her journey and the violence of war and the time she lived in. Leelee Sobieski does a good job as Joan of Arc and gives a convincing portrayal of this unique saint.

...I have made in a long time. I got this soundtrack relying on previous reviewers and it turned out to be one of the most entertaining and best composed works I can recall. Heroic, romantic, inspired, it does not need the film to be enjoyed by its own merits. A hidden classic.

VHS : Conspiracy Of Silence [1991]
This is a true story of a 19 year old creole indian girl, who has come to Canada to study. She is brutally murdered by a gangs of lads who are out for a good time, although not intentionally setting out to hurt anybody.
It lasts around 3 hours, although is a truly touching story and I would reccommend it.
It happened in Canada in 1971. The film shows flashbacks and takes you through how the young men cope throughtout their life knowing they have committed this crime, which they have kept a secret between them. The people who live in the small town know they are the responsible, but keep it quiet due to the fact she is a foreigner.

This is a very creditable attempt to recreate (in colour film) the classic California-set films noirs of the 1940's and early 1950's. Opening with, again, a classic explanatory and scene-setting narrative ("In 1945, I..."), the film continues on its way, as the plot unravels smoothly. The only differences between this film and the classic noirs is that they used colour film and that the film is set mainly amid the upwardly mobile and (in some cases) not so upwardly mobile black population of Los Angeles, as it was in the late 1940's. Not at all bad.

I'm not American, and I'm not a bloke who like's sports. In fact I am a woman who generally prefers figure-skating to Ice Hockey. And yet I loved this movie. Originally it was one of a handful of rentals in a Dvd shop that we wouldn't have bothered with if there was anything else we would have thought worth watching; and that would've been a mistake. This movie made me laugh and cry in equal measures, and I found I held my breath in the way male friends assure me they do just before their home team scores a goal a few minutes towards the end of the match. A sweet and pleasant movie, best watched a cold wet sunday whilst curled up under a blanket. Not to be missed.
