VHS : The Boyfriend [1971]
Where is the DVD release of this classic piece of Ken Russell camp ? It showed what a good actress Twiggy could be (where is the DVD of Madame Sousatzka ????) and is enormously indulgent and good fun. Please remaster the original director's cut and release it on DVD. Given the ridiculously high prices being asked for old ex-rental VHS tapes of this film, a DVD release sounds like it would be a profitable exercise.

VHS : The Devils [1971]
This film deserves so much more credit for what it achieves from Huxley's original. While some of the performances are a little shakey, this film represents one of the great Oliver Reed's finest moments - he exudes power and sexuality as Grandier, and the film achieves some particularly powerful/disturbing moments in the depiction of the ergot-addled nunnery.

HOWEVER...

This film has truly been victimised by the censors and there is Still no DVD version available - surely with the garbage which the censors let through these days this film can be restored and re-released?

3.The Music Lovers [1970] starring: Richard Chamberlain, Glenda Jackson, Max Adrian, Christopher Gable, Kenneth Colley

VHS : The Music Lovers [1970]
This film has so much going for it that you should stop and think twice before dismissing my claim.
First of all it is a genuine Tragedy in the Aristotelian sense.
Secondly, it the Tragedy of a major musical genius who is also a popular romantic artist.
Thirdly, he is treated by Russell as the representative Romantic Artist who tries but fails to live up to his ideals. This has always been Russell's main theme as an filmaker but we need to have his films about Debussy, Rossetti and Richard Strauss, to put alongside some of the ones we have, to see this pattern as a whole.
Fourthly, the expressionistic visual style of the film is an attempt to create a visual equivalent of romantic music as an art form. In this it is nothing ... Read More:

I've had this film for ages and have only just got around to watching it. I wish I had watched it sooner. Loved the storyline. It makes you laugh, makes you go 'awwrr', makes you cry and really does make you think about things which are important to you. Well worth watching, whatever your age!
