VHS : Pocahontas (1995) (Disney)
With Pocahontas as an ancestor, I saw this movie in grade school and then followed it up with mountains of reading and research when it first came out. Disney has been well known for their distortion of stories and tale, but that generally doesn't bother me. Beauty and the Beast is my favourite movie of all time even though it differs drastically from the original tale. Disney went too far, however, when they decided to tackle American history and then twist it for their means. A few being, the aging of Pocahontas to make her old enough for romance (she would have been 12 or 13), the supposed love affair with John Smith, and the entire political correctness of the story defile an important part of our history (ie. Jamestown the first ... Read More:

VHS : Hamlet [1991]
This Play is one of the most important pieces of drama and poetry in Shakespeare's complete works. A cycle of peace and quiet is disturbed by an incestuous crime, both the murder of a brother and the hasty and sensuous marriage of the murderer with the victim's wife, a marriage which is totally against the normal Christian and feudal rules of the time : you are not supposed to covet the wife of your brother. Then havoc falls onto the kingdom of Denmark. Hamlet is forced to play deranged and crazy to save his life and to cover up his violent defense against dangers around him. Ophelia will get deranged to the point of drowning herself. Then the cycle of disturbances will go on to its utter end which means the destruction of all the protagonists. Shakespeare's vision ... VHS : Chicken Run [2000]
The chickens are tired of life on the farm, and fed up with being eaten when they get too old to produce eggs. They hatch various plans to escape , but none succeed. Then Rocky the Rooster (voiced by Mel Gibson) lands among them, and they think that he can fly and will help them to escape. But can he really fly?

This film is very amusing and the children love it. I enjoy it too. I do however always find myself rather cynically wondering (at the end of the film, when they have escaped to their life of freedom), how they are going to fare the first time they encounter a fox, or when it gets cold and food is scarce and they find themselves longing for their nice warm hen-house back on the farm. Stifle such doubts, just enjoy it.

VHS : Lethal Weapon [1987]
Made in the 80's and boy can't you tell. Watching this now is pretty depressing to be honest with you. Mel Gibson gets mad and blows away all the bad guys, hooray...That pretty much sums up the plot. Oh, I forgot, throw in the lame story about his wife getting popped off and turn him into a suicidal cop living on the edge, now we have a film. Genius. I'm sorry to upset fans of the film but unfortunately it's just a dull, formulaic, uninspiring waste of space as far as I can see. Although the ever dependable Gary Busey does another smart turn as one of the maniacal bad guys.

VHS : Mad Max 2 - Road Warrior [1981]
Ive watched this film more times than any other since it was first released on VHS in 1983. It made a lasting impession on me and ive never seen it bettered by any others of its type including 1985's Thunderdome.
So many elements are combined here; SciFi, Horror, Action, Western, Revenge Thriller and combined well. Mad Max was good but this really ramps it up.
Set in a desolate and lawless future Australian outback after the fall of civilisation(post world war 3 but NOT after a nuclear conflict - the Bombs fall in the years between parts 2 & 3) the saga continues of Max Rockatansky, the embittered and battle hardened warrior of the wasteland, constantly at war with the ferocious marauders who terrorise the apocalyptic landscape. Max is the epitome of 'Hard' - ... Read More:

VHS : Forever Young [1993]
FOREVER YOUNG, in my opinion, is an excellent drama that will warm your heart and stay with you eternally. When Daniel (Mel Gibson) got thawed out in 1992, I was really shocked. This was because he met and fell in love with Claire (Jamie Lee Curtis). It was sad he had just lost his girlfriend (Isabel Glaser) in 1939, though. I also enjoyed seeing George Wendt (Harry), too. The moment I found out he was in this, I was taken aback. If you ask me, the performances were good, the direction was excellent, and the cast was perfectly chosen. Now, in conclusion, I highly recommend this excellent drama that will warm your heart and stay with you eternally to any Mel Gibson or Jamie Lee Curtis fan who hasn't seen it. You're in for a feel good time, so go to the video store, rent it or buy it, ... Read More:

Recently watched Mel Gibson one but wanted to know more about the original (Glenn Ford) and intrigued by this Sean Connery one NOT THE MEL GIBSON 1997 ONE! Why are all the reviews for Mel Gibson, which I think was a great film incidentally, but I want to know about this one. Very frustrating.

VHS : Lethal Weapon 4 [1998]
This is just about entertaining enough to not completely overpower the viewer with irritation. It's basically family values plus the odd car chase and murder. Jet Li puts in a great turn and the action is spectacular in places, but has long since lost its teeth.
