VHS : The Great Gatsby [1974]
I love the book, its well written with a great storyline.
The film however is completely terrible. Some of the worst acting ive ever seen, ridiculous direction and any of the bits that arent straight quotes from the book (which leaves little) are written awfully.
In all, I can't think of a film ive seen that ive hated this much.
I seriously recommend you don't see this, this includes if you are doing it for A-Level. It really doesnt help.

VHS : Shadows And Fog [1992]
This has an impressive cast for a Woody Allen film. Madonna, Lily Tomlin, John Cusack, Major Winchester from MASH, Marge from the Simpsons etc etc. But and this is a very big but, the laughs are few and far between. There are other Woody Allen films that are better.

VHS : The Last Unicorn [1982]
I hadn't watched this film for 20 years, but it must have left a big impression on me when I was seven, because I still found myself remembering the songs and completing some of the characters' lines. On the surface it's a straightforward fable about a unicorn who realises she is the last of her kind and embarks on a quest to find out what happened to the others, along the way teaming up with the inept wizard Schmendrick and a histrionic outlaw named Molly. Underneath it has a rueful, melancholy, slightly unsettling darker edge that occasionally emerges in throwaway lines of dialogue and can catch you off balance.

The animation looks great for the pre-digital era. The colours are still bright and the film doesn't seem to have aged at all. The voice ... Read More:

VHS : Rosemary's Baby [1968]
'Rosemary's Baby' is without doubt Roman Polanski's best movie.
Still after fourty years this film scares me. Not in the kind of gruesome (torture-porn) kind of way that the Saw franchise do, but in a deeply psychological way, in the spirit of all the great twentieth century horror films. Rosemary (Mia Farrow) is the young married woman who's just moving into an upstate New York appartment block with her husband, actor Guy (John Cassavetes). The pair soon get to know their neighbours (mainly) Minnie Castevet & her husband Roman Castevet (Sidney Blackmer).
Rosemary's baby is a very scary film, not gruesome (sometimes mildly explicit) but it has that claustrophobic eery feeling & after the first half of the film the feeling that no one can be ... Read More:

and fun with excellent performances especially from Joan Plowright but also Mia Farrow surprisingly convincing as Irish.
When I saw this first some years ago I was amazed that it was a box-office flop......re-viewing now it does perhaps lack a little in technical skill but still charming!

VHS : Zelig [1983]
This is Woody at his most inventive. Beginning in the prohibition era and filmed documentary-style largely in black and white, it tells the fictional tale of Leonard Zelig (Allen), a humble clerk with a troubled childhood, who grows into a man who can change his physical appearance to match that of those around him. If he's among Chinese people, he becomes Chinese; if he's among Scotsmen, he grows red whiskers and sports a kilt. When among professional people, he talks convincingly as though he were one of them, though he's unable to accommodate any changes to emulate women, midgets or chickens. In the company of his psychiatrist, he pretends to be one himself, claiming that he's treating two sets of Siamese twins for split personalities, and is therefore getting paid eight ... Read More:
