VHS : Father Of The Bride [1992]
I really can't say enough good things about this film, it's definately one of my all time favourites. Steve Martin plays a great role as George Banks, but the star of the film is without a doubt Martin Short who plays the wedding planner, Frank. The accent cracks me up every time I hear it. This film really is, in my eyes, completely faultless. The funny parts had me laughing out loud, and other parts had me in tears. I think what I love most about this film, is that whilst it has the great comedy element, it still manages to be very believable. I think a lot of fathers with married daughters could watch this and sympathise! Brilliant film, I'd recommend it to anyone!

VHS : Batman [1989]
Batman has always been a vastly over-rated movie and I find it difficult to understand how it garnered such positive reviews on it's release . Having watched this recently on TV it seems like a good time to look again at this disappointing film.
It has many flaws but chief among these is the casting of 80's "it girl" Kim Basinger. She almost single handedly ruins this film with her unbelievably poor performance, coming across like some am dram second rater. Michael Keaton does some of his best work but is scuppered in the Batman role by a Batsuit which allows extremely limited movement of body and none of neck whatsoever. He walks around like he has a washboard stuck up his back, completely not his fault I understand. Jack Nicholson's Joker ... Read More:

VHS : Batman Returns [1992]
What I extremely like about "Batman" (1989) bounces back again in "Batman Returns": schizophrenic characters (in "Batman" there were at least two super-schizophrenics - I shouldn't name them, should I? - but here there are distinctive three of them), enchanting atmosphere (the sets are beautiful, "gothically" menacing, and simply outstanding), cool acting (when I say "cool acting" I mean my absolute inability to poke finger at the characters with disrespect and contempt; quite the other way round: I do respect all the characters here, while they are never goofy, stupid, or over-sentimental), great action scenes (fighting against the hordes of clowns, great acrobatic stunts - I am especially happy with that scene where clowns are jumping onto the Xmas ... VHS : Jackie Brown [1998]
In Tarantino's third film, Pam Grier stars as Jackie Brown, who is arrested for bringing illegal money into the country which ultimately takes her into a case involving one of her close friends, gun dealer Ordell (Jackson).

Once again covering the crime genre, Tarantino brings the characters and plot to life with cutting edge direction, and specific writing in a great portrayal of the crime world.

A lot of crime films focus upon action and car chases at every possible opportunity but this crime drama exploits the more specific details of what gun dealers and police are like with the unnecessary action. In admiring the realism of this concept, it does last for the entire film with hardly any action and can trail off waiting for something ... Read More:

VHS : The Godfather - Part II [1975]
A masterpiece of a film. An Outstanding cast. A GREAT STORY.

A young Robert de Niro, who looks so gorgeous in the film, shows us early in his career, why he is still one of the greatest actors in the world.

Of course the true star of the film (apart from Brando) is the truly amazing Al Pacino. The sexiest Mafia Boss Ever!!!

Al Pacino owns this role. No one could have played it better. Once you watch them....You will never forget the Godfather films. They are unforgettable.

I love the way the film goes back in time and shows us the roots of The Godfather's life. The scene where it cuts back into the present, and Al Pacino is on the train, is superbly directed.

This film has some of the greatest actors ... Read More:

VHS : Beetlejuice [1988]
Young married couple Adam and Barbara Maitland (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) are staying home for their vacation. In an effort to avoid driving over a cute mutt, they, car and all plunge over a bridge. The next thing they know is that they are home. However something is a tad strange. Yep soon they find they are the recently deceased. How will they cope with the situation and where can they find help whim strange people purchase and intend to occupy the house?

The story takes some intriguing turns. And the musing instead of being a background mood helper is actually as important as the other characters in the story. "Day-o, he say day-ay-ay-o."

This film is an excellent candidate for Blu-ray. The Blu-ray version also has the standard extras. I ... Read More:

VHS : Multiplicity [1996]
MULTIPLICITY is a typically light romantic comedy out of Hollywood. An overworked construction manager with family pressures decides to let himself be cloned-- in order to get more work done and make extra free time for himself. He soon clones himself again when he finds that he needs even more time now that he's been staying home doing the housework and caring for the kids while his wife takes up her career again. Then one of the clones goes out and clones himself, which being a copy of a copy ( a degraded simulacrum) doesn't turn out very well. They all end up having sex with his wife one night in a rowdy comedy of errors that takes Shakespeare out of romantic mistaken identity and into one a bit more hardcore. (This is of course merely suggested off screen, softly.)

VHS : Jack Frost [1999]
When Frank Capra directed It's a Wonderful Life a classic was made and whilst Jack Frost may not be anywhere near to this standard a 3rd generation Capra directs a very enjoyable Christmas fare.Michael Keaton and Kelly Preston shine in this warm hearted tale about young boy whose father is too occupied with hitting the big time rock and roll stage rather than spend time with his kid. However this all changes when the film takes a rather unusual twist(if not totally unbelievable). Nevertheless, the storyline has a warm Dickens type feel good factor and an underlying message for ignoring father's.Michael Keaton is polished in his role as the father of Charlie and Kelly Preston shines as his mother in a spoof snowman tale that is bound to go down well with the kids (guaranteed)The sound ... VHS : Play It Again Sam [1972]
It has almost been forgotten that this film was not directed by Woody Allen - but this makes no difference it is still one of his greatest films.
We start the film with Allan Felix (Allen) watching Casablanca in the Cinema and feebly impersonating Bogart as he leaves the Cinema. The film proceeds with an imaginary Bogart advising Allan on how to deal with Women. Allan as you would expect is pretty hopeless!
This film is consistently funny with the blind date scene being one of the greatest comedy scenes ever filmed.
The script (based on Woody Allens own stage play) is full of great dialog, as you would expect.
Diane Keaton is wonderful in her role, and Tony Roberts is very funny in his supporting role as the business man who leaves a telephone number so he can ... Read More:

VHS : The Godfather Trilogy [1972]
I first saw these films when they were aired on channel 5 a while ago but only saw about half of the first film, all of the second and none of the the third one. So the incentive was there to buy them, after what i had seen of them i thought it would make a great addition to my dvds. I wasnt wrong either. Though to be honest i couldnt see some of my friends either watching them or buying them, as these films aren't mindless action and explosion fests. They take time to watch, literally and mentally. If you really want to get the best from them, set aside a night where you can watch them in peace to soak up the class of them directing, script, acting and story. They are completely different to the more modern gangster/mafia films. The time is taken for you to get to know the characters, and it is ... Read More:
