VHS : Enchanted April [1991]
Not particularly for Lethal Weapon fans but a lovely gentle unfolding of a gentle story. It begins in a damp depressing London and end up in beautiful Italy. People, as well as the scenery are transformed and the memorable performances of Polly Walker and Miranda Richardson make for a memorable cinamatic experience. Buy the movie, you'll want to watch it more than once (or twice!).

VHS : The Buccaneers [1994]
i absolutly loved this when it was on tv and it was my first glimps into an adaptation and from then on i loved them all (p&p, s&s, emma, martin chuzzlewit, jane eyre, etc). i was always hoping they would put it on again and on DVD (hint, hint) i always wanted to own it on dvd, i see they have it in video and at a ridiculusly high price!!!
what can i say the gowns where beautiful, the storyline was gripping and will keep you on the edge of your seat and in my opinion it was perfectly adapted for tv. when the sad part came you couldn't help feeling terrible for her (won't give any away) but then a ray of hope and all was well again ready for a happy ending. i just adore this BBC adaptation and at the end you can't help sighing with sheer ... VHS : Oliver Twist [1999]
I just watched Roman Polanski's Oliver Twist, and like the critics didn't think much of it. But this really is a Masterpiece. Everybody knows the story of Oliver Twist so you really have to do a good film. This stays true to Dickens and is just brilliant! I just hope it comes out on DVD in the UK :(

VHS : Out Of Africa [1986]
Having watched The English Patient a few times recently I was looking on Amazon for something along similar lines, and luckily i discovered the Best Picture of 1986--Out of Africa. "A classic along the lines of The English Patient" I mumbled to myself as i placed the dvd into the player and cracked open a bottle of red wine.

The slow pace of the movie put me off, and all we learn in the first hour is that Meryrl Streep contracts shyphillis from her cheating husband in Africa, and then Robert Redford enters the scene with a dodgy English accent and saves her from boredom and a sham marriage.

John Barry's score is one of the films highlights. The cinematography is excellent but the directing is poor. Pollack, the director, must have ... Read More:

VHS : Fatherland [1994]
This film is not great but it is worth a watch, my only warning is that you should watch it before reading the book (which is infinitely much better).

I don't quite understand what went wrong when this made for TV film was made as the casting of Rutger Hauer and Miranda Richardson as Zavi and Charlie (Charlotte) was spot on, yet halfway through the film the plot changes from that in the book, ultimately ruining what could have been a brilliant film.

With any luck another, more accurate, version of the book will be filmed in the near future, although who to cast will pose some problems...

VHS : Reckless - The Sequel [1998]
If you followed the first series then you cannot possibly want to miss the sequel. Its funny yet romantic. Robson Green is great in both series as is Francesca Annis. We have both series from the day they first came out on video tape and I have lost count of the number of times we have enjoyed watching. Iwould and have recommended the series to many many friends and I would give it 10 stars if it were allowed

9.The World Is Not Enough [1999] starring: Pierce Brosnan, Sophie Marceau, Robert Carlyle, Denise Richards, Robbie Coltrane

VHS : The World Is Not Enough [1999]
James Bond (Brosnan) is sent on a mission to protect the daughter of recently deceased Robert King and is soon finding clues to who was behind his murder.

After two impressive enthusiastic performances as Bond in Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies, Pierce Brosnan added more drama to the character in this tense if slightly over-informed thriller.

Brosnan again cements the character to the ground with some delicious acting worthy of praise with cheeky puns and great onscreen relationships. The adding of the drama was a necessity to the character to create a more human feeling over that superhero cover he previously conveyed. The dramatic reflection on the plot is executed well by Brosnan and has only been bettered by Craig's recent reprisal of the British ... Read More:
