VHS : Hear My Song [1991]
It doesn't matter if you have never heard of this Irish tenor, or even like that kind of music, this is a marvelously warm film. Adrian Dunbar is a promoter of a club, in the UK, who normally books look-a-likes, however after several disasters he decides to find the man himself - Josef Locke (yes, this is the correct spelling). He travels to Ireland and after some searching he finally meets him and persuades him to come back and do one last performance. The reason for Josef being in Ireland is to avoid UK tax, of which he owes an undisclosed amount. With the UK police trying to catch him this is a more than pleasant caper. (And I bet you can't help humming the main theme, "Hear my song")

Cutting the final scene was idiotic! The thriller element was only ever a vehicle for the romance to which you're now ROBBED of a satisfying conclusion.

Skip this atrocity until it's re-issued whole - which it's bound to be - the seduction scene between Quaid / Barkin is consistantly voted one of the best 'sex scenes' on film.

Menawhile borrow the complete (VHS) version if you have a way to watch it & try the soundtrack or even better visit New Orleans itself...

First saw this back in 1989ish on BBC 2 as a 12 year old and loved it then. Only seen it a couple of times since and, seeing as it feels like it will never come out on region 2, i went and bought this.
Film isnt hysterically funny but it will make you laugh. v v v entertaining, great to look at, great score, great direction.
Extras are brilliant - 1hr 40 documentary, lots of deleted scenes, extras and home movies.
This new directors cut extends the movies running time to 2hrs 40. Some of the new scenes work, others are just plain dull. But its just great to actually find a copy of this movie.
Still could do with a region 2 edition but for the moment this is the best we can get here in the UK.

"All The President's Men" (2 DISC) is a classic film about an important period in American Political History. The Director and his Actors should feel proud. Two intrepid reports expose the rampant corruption within the Whitehouse and bring down a criminal president.

What is shocking on seeing this film again is that in the present political climate in America the actions of these iconic reporters would not be possible.

Under this present administration these reporters would be subpoenaed and made to reveal their sources. So quite possibly if Woodward and Bernstein revealed nothing as would be expected, they could, before the night is out, be stuck in some flea infested jail without the basic right of seeing their lawyer AND ... A rollercoaster ride of a movie. Not a lot of physical action but an awful lot of talking, to put it very mildly. But then multiple Oscar winner Paddy Chayefsky wrote it, so there would be. This guy is one of the most prized screenwriters of all time, and you just know instantly if you are watching one of his movies or not. I say his, because although he never directed, each film he did has his stamp all over it. I won't waste time in praising him or doing him down, but this is very much a Paddy Chayefsky movie. Others have reviewed the movie, the plot and the theme. I'm just going to tell you this is a Paddy Chayefsky movie. Don't be too tired but do have your dictionary to hand if you are folks because this is a Paddy Cheyefsky movie. Get it? You will after watching ... Read More:

VHS : Repossessed [1989]
When I was about to watch this so called Exorcist spoof, I was expecting tons of laughs and a film that could possibly be better than THE NAKED GUN!!! It stars Leslie Nielsen so what could go wrong? Then I watched it.
It is nothing but an unfunny wannabe spoof that tries hard to equal with the classic ZUCKER ABRAHAMS ZUCKER movies. It fails miserably. All jokes fall flat on their faces and has acting that will make you cringe and think 'this acting doesn't belong in a spoof!'

We see father Jedediah Mayii (played by Leslie Nielsen taking off Max Von Sydow)who must rid Nancy Aglet (Linda Blair) of the devil...again, years after she was possessed as a child.
Linda Blair looks embarrased to be in the movie as her acting in the flick does not work at all with ... Read More:
