VHS : Lipstick On Your Collar [1993]
I agree with the last reviewer. This is a series which I made a point of watching. The faultless cast includes a young Ewan McGregor and the excellent Roy Hudd. It must be over 10 years since I've seen it and I'd like to watch it again. Shame there is no DVD release as yet.

VHS : Bugsy Malone [1976]
I watched this film at various stages throughout my life and still have a soft spot for Bugsy Malone. Jodie Foster is and always has been one of my favourite actresses and this is the film I first saw her in. Remember when Babyface says 'get Babyface..I am Babyface' who incidentally is a British actor called Dexter Fletcher and has been in many television productions and films more famously in Lock Stock as Soap. The British actors seem to have done more with their lives than the American ones.....please correct me if I'm wrong. I wont mind...

This film is never outdated, should still be 'allowed' by the PC Brigade and no doubt be watched a few generations down the line. The actors were outstanding for their age and for the time ... Read More:

VHS : Rasputin

Whilst not a lover of true stories that are brought to the silver screen, I was impressed with this movie. It was seeing Alan Rickman here play 'Rasputin' that convinced me that he is probably one of the greatest living actors! He played the part perfectly - despite all the distasteful characteristics of the person that was 'Rasputin', Rickman manages to still enchant, draw, and 'seduce' the viewer with immense power of 'presence' - which is exactly what the real man must have done. The charisma that Rickman was able to exude whilst portraying the persona so well, I found quite hypnotic, and helped me understand how and why so many people would have accepted anything he said and did. The 'whole' story of course is most distressing ... Read More:

VHS : O Lucky Man! [1973]
Posting this because I think the other comment is misleading. Do not be put off by the comment that it is is cut, it is definitely not cut - this is the 178 minute uncut version - the print is split over the two discs, disc 1 having the first 87 mins and disc 2 having a further 90 mins. In all it's an excellent presentation of the film and if/when it's released on R2 I would expect the presentation to be similar if not the same.

VHS : The Crucible [1997]
Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them that hang! How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul; leave me my name!... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... .... ... ... ... ... .... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... .... ... ... ... ... .... ... After being caught dancing naked in the woods, Abigail Williams hatches a plan with the other girls in the village. Abigail claims that she has been fighting to save her own soul, as she is surrounded by people who worship the devil. Instead of dismissing these claims as foolish ramblings of a young girl, the town elders encourage her hysteria. Accusations fuelled by provincial politics, greed, spite, paranoia, and fear become commonplace. Many people are ... Read More:

With Alan Bates how could this not be a fabulous version of The Mayor of Casterbridge! Again, English theatre at its very best. Wonderful storyline, brilliant acting and the English countryside - who could ask for more.

VHS : Elizabeth R - Part 1 (1971)
The only word for this is sumptuous. From the first class acting from a galaxy of Britain's finest actors, to Glenda Jackson's stunning performance in the title role, to the glorious costumes and lavish sets...this dramatic depiction of a slice of English history has never lost its gloss and sheen or become tired and stale through the years. As fresh, intriguing and enticing now as it was when it was first shown.

It could teach today's film makers a thing or two.

What delight to watch this film again after 30 years. A true classic what a treat if you've never seen it as my partner hadn't.
Nostalgic scenes of the outside world in the 60s with a BSA motorcycles playing a part.
NOT A DULL MOMENT, tremendous theme, acting atmosphere all perfect.I give it 5 of the best....

VHS : Anne Of The Thousand Days [1969]
"Anne of the Thousand Days" is a 1969 costume drama directed by Charles Jarrott. The film is based on the Broadway play with the same title of 1948. It had to wait over 20 years to be filmed because the themes of adultery, illegitimacy, and incest would not have been acceptable to the production code. In the main roles are Richard Burton as King Henry VIII and Genevieve Bujold as Anne Boleyn. Irene Papas plays Catherine of Aragon.

The film received 10 Oscar nominations in 1970, but won only one for Best Costume Design. 7 Golden Globe nominations, winning four, including Best Motion Picture Actress -Drama - for Geneviève Bujold and Best Motion Picture - Drama - already indicates this is a great movie. The movie captivates its audience straight away and befenits from great acting skills and of ... Read More:
