VHS : Buffy The Vampire Slayer - The Movie [1992]
This is not a great film by any measure, on the other hand it is not the worst I have ever seen. It's not a patch on the TV series, but will be interesting for hardcore buffy fans. There are numerous inconsistencies between the film and the start of the TV series (I think the biggest is that buffy doesn't get any older in the 4 or so years between the film and the TV series!). That's not really the point though, this was where it all began! There are definately a few "Joss" moments in the script, but it's not really laugh out loud funny like the TV series. It deserves a watch if you are a Buffy fan or have a couple of free hours where you don't really want to use your brain. You can get it from a marketplace seller for a couple of quid, and ... The DVD has good and poor points in and against it.
First the good ones: the thriller is well conceived. Placing Hamlet in the present days is quite well achieved and the story is well paced. Acting is ok (for a thriller it is sufficient).
So you are bound to follow the film with interest.
Picture quality is clear in 4:3 ratio image.
The poor items are: sound is only in stereo, the extra features are almost non existent (only a trailler is available) and there are no subtitles (I consider that at least English subtitles should be a "must" in any DVD, preferably for earing impaired).

VHS : Walking And Talking [1997]
Walking and Talking is a film that can be watched countless times and still leave you feeling like you don't want it to end. The characters are all so familiar that you feel you can relate, yet unique enough to make the story interesting and keep you thinking. The life-long friendship of two women is shaken when one of them gets engaged. The story stays balanced on both but shifts slightly to the perspective of the character played by Catherine Keener, who is still single. Her learning to come to terms with the fact that her best friend is entering a phase of life that is still foriegn to her is the crux of the film. While it seems a feminine tale, the movie is cooky enough to get your attention and moments of the film will make you giggle for ... Read More:

I found this film very entertaining. Although I thought there'd be a twist at the end it wasn't the one I was expecting.

You can't exactly 'warm' to the character's but Matthew Lillard is excellent as instigator and plays his role with his usual energy. Michael Vartan is also good as his room mate who reluctantly helps Lillard carry out the killing.

The film leads you first one way and then another until the final dramatic ending. Even though you'll think you've guessed it, chances are you haven't!

VHS : School Ties [1992]
Shallow as it may sound, I only bought this film because of an article I'd read in Attitude magazine about the hottest moments in Hollywood history. After reading about this film - which features Matt Damon, Chris O'Donnell and Brendan Fraser in a naked brawl in the communal showers of a boarding school in the 1950s - my mind was made up. Having said that, I did enjoy the film as a whole. Sadly, the scene in question is rather short, but sweet nonetheless. What is particularly interesting here is to see these actors, as Attitude puts it, 'A-list before they were A-list' (the film is from 1992, when the lead actors were still young and strapping). The three put in mravellous performances, a joy to watch. Unfortunately the script doesn't quite match up ... Read More:

Although the aspect indicates an unorthadox ratio, other than 185 Widescreen & 235 Letterbox, when the BBC recently broadcast this film, it was a 16 X 7 Letterbox crop of the 16 X 12 Video, which means that *71% was UNNECESSARILY, EXCESSIVELY & VICIOUSLY CROPPED from the, 4.3/16.12, version.
NB. On all previous occassions the BBC had broadcast the 4 X 3 video version of the film.
All of which leads me to conclude that on occasions, TV broadcasters are, obtaining/ordering/being sent, the DVD version of films; if that is the case in relation to this film then if you purchase the DVD then what you will get is the Video version with *71% UNNECESSARILY, EXCESSIVELY & VICIOUSLY CROPPED from it.
