VHS : Twilight's Last Gleaming [1977]
Knowing political analogy, incisive script, great acting , but primarily a gripping edge of your seat drama from one of the great movie directors.
Why is it that movie companies seem eager to release so many mediocre movies on to DVD yet this masterpiece remains unavailable.
Please , please release on DVD !

VHS : Cheyenne Autumn [1964]
I have read the reviews about John Fords 'Cheyenne Autumn'. John Ford tried in this film I believe to highlight the truth about the american indians, the true native americans, not the different cultures who claimed to be americans. He tried to highlight the plight of the native americans and how they were forced from their native lands onto reservations where nothing except weeds would grow. They couldn't hunt buffalo because they like the indians had been hunted and killed almost to the point of extinction. In the 60's when the film had been made all the news had been about the civil rights movement and the rights of the black american citizens. John Ford tried to remind the american public that there was another race of people in America who weren't receiving ... Read More:

This is one great spy story and the film makes justice of the original Alistair Maclean novel. It's a shame we can only get a low quality VHS version of this classic. Other Maclean stories cinematic adaptations, like the Guns of Navarone or When Eagles Dare are already available in DVD. When will Bear Island come?

VHS : Agatha Christie's Murder On The Orient Express [1974]
I first read Murder on the Orient Express at school. Unlike most books where I ended up desperately trying to finish the book at 3:00 am the day before a test, I was unable to put this one down, and even (I admit with shame), had to check my room and under the bed for some terrible fear of seeing the 'woman in the scarlet kimono' or the 'small dark man with the womanish voice'. How excited I was to see the film.

Unfortunately, I was a bit let down. This is down in part to two reasons. Firstly it is the length of the film which needed AT LEAST another hour to tell the story properly. Secondly, it is the fact that most of the all-star cast fall flat on their faces. Co. Arbuthnott is supposed to cold and unemotional, so what in God's name convinced ... Read More:

VHS : How The West Was Won
Excellent restoration of the film and for the first time on DVD we now see ALL of the film - no cropping at the sides or the top. A remarkable amount of work has gone into removing the joins between the three panels of film which made Cinerama so unique, and in cleaning up the prints. The 5.1 sound does great justice to this fantastic telling of the west and how it was won!

7.Don't Bother To Knock [1952] starring: Richard Widmark, Marilyn Monroe, Anne Bancroft, Donna Corcoran, Jeanne Cagney

VHS : Don't Bother To Knock [1952]
Anyone who says Marilyn Monroe was not a talented dramatic actress has never seen Dont Bother to Knock, a darkly unique entry among Marilyns filmography. This film marks Marilyns first dramatic starring role, and it is Marilyn as you would never see her again. She plays Nell, a deeply troubled young lady whose shyness and aloofness at first prove to be only the tip of the iceberg in relation to her problems. She has recently moved to New York to start her life over again, and her helpful uncle, an elevator operator in a grand hotel, has arranged for her to baby-sit a wealthy couples little girl for the night. This, as soon becomes apparent, was not a good idea. Her behavior becomes stranger and stranger as the night progresses, exacerbated by ... Read More:

VHS : To the Devil A Daughter [1976]
To the Devil a Daughter was Hammer's last horror film, but it makes for a less than grand slice of guignol and pales in comparison to their earlier Dennis Wheatley adaptation, The Devil Rides Out. Richard Widmark is the imported American star battling Christopher Lee's Satanist while trying to protect Nastassja Kinski from becoming host to a demon, but despite a few good scenes the film never really makes much of its premise and the ending is one of the biggest anticlimaxes in the history of horror.

The best part of it is the excellent documentary on Anchor Bay's Region 1 NTSC DVD, which is surprisingly frank about the film's shortcomings - including that non-ending - and Richard Widmark's tantrums on the set. Anchor Bay's transfer is also surprisingly good: unlike ... Read More:

VHS : Churchill - The Finest Hours [1964]
This is truly one of the most excellent, informative and well done biographical videos that it has been my pleasure to obtain. The narration and soundtrack to it are superb, and the accuracy is very well done as well. I recommend it highly to any fan or student of the life of the Honorable Sir Winston Churchill.
