VHS : Licence To Kill [1989]
I really liked Timothy Dalton as Bond. I really thought the guy did a great job. The Living Daylights was an excellent Bond thriller, more in line with Dr No and From Russia With Love in tone and style, but with Licence To Kill you can tell that Broccoli decided to compete with the big boys with this action packed spectacular that aims high and scores. What we have here is Bond with spectacular action scenes and a more nastier steak with regards to the violence that is more in line with Hollywood action blockbusters than with quintessential British spies. This is why the film works. Licence To Kill is much more darker than any of the Bond films that has come before, and after the silliness of the Moore era, that was what this franchise needed. ... It's rare for me to say this but I enjoyed this black and white version less than any others I have viewed. I could not get myself into the film. There was a good cast but the film didn't really do anything for me!!

I first saw this film in 1963 - it has been with me ever since. There can be many intepretations of the play - there does not have to be a "best". This one is just essential.

I had to read this novel as part of my A Level PE course. At first I was dreadding readding it, however, the more I read the more I became facinated with it. I was amazed, yet intruiged at the way the sixth form boys treated their "fags" and contemplated what would happen to the pupils at my own school if these shannanigans were to be imitated here. I found the boxing, cricket, fox and founds and rugby games/matches most helpful with my course and would would advise other PE students to read this book and concentrate on these scenes. I sometimes found these scenes difficult to picture in my mind, and therefore found the film an added bonus to my course after reading the book version. If you cannot obtain the book, watch the film as you won't regret it when it comes ... Read More:

VHS : Jamaica Inn [1939]
It's a film Hitchcock had no real afinity for, and it was largely out of frustration that he agreed to direct it. It was a torturous production (one member of the supporting cast died prematurely shortly after the film, with producer Sidney Gilliat blaming his demise on the fact the actors were required to do numerous takes in the middle of rolling wind and wave machines; removing the clergyman of the book as the villian disregarded the whole point of the novel itself; Charles Laughton's method acting (a process which Hitchcock declared "Laughton versus Laughton) and by rights shouldn't be much cop at all.
