VHS : Swallows And Amazons [1974]
Unfortunately i have not read the book 'Swallows and Amazons' by Arthur Ransome, however i really didn't need too, to be able to enjoy this film. It really is a great childrens film and i am actually quite suprised that i had never heard of it before this.

It is about a group of children who go camping on an island with a boat called 'Swallow'. While they are there they have many adventures, among them is their meeting with some pirates, whose boat is called 'Amazon', and together they declare war on a grumpy man who refuses to play with them.

Like 'The Railway Children', i can warm to every character in this film straight away, and i almost felt as though i wanted to be there with them, sailing the boat around the island, ... Read More:

I read the play by Willis Hall before watching the film, and expected the film just to be a dramatisation of the play. However, although Leslie Norman stayed quite close to the play in terms of dialogue, he takes liberties with additional scenes, settings, and in particular the ending. Therefore, I was on the edge of my seat with suspense even though I'd read the play beforehand.

The acting is believeable, special kudos going to Laurence Harvey. Also, there's a nice musical score at the beginning and end of the film.

One thing I do suggest is that you read the play first, because there are some very funny scenes which are omitted from the film. That way, you get the best of both worlds.

I hate what people say about this horribly underated story. Its fantastic, funny and I love it to pieces! The Kandy man does not in the slightest remind me of Bertie Basset. He`s a brilliant villan, and him constantly screaming "GILLLBBBEEERRRTTT!!!!!!" just cracks me up. As for that loveable hound Fifi, it`s so sad when Helen A becomes a hypocrite over what happens to her pet(no spoilers here!). Ace is on top form, with the seventh doctor at his best (and you`ll cheer as he talks a man out of shooting him). A complete hoot from start to finish " The Happiness Patrol" is a memorable event in doctor who`s history.

When I'm asked, "what is your favourite film of all time". Well I find it impossible to pick one favourite, but if it would be a top ten, then The Rebel would be close to actually being the winner.

VHS : The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle (1980) [1982]
This movie is an entertaining look at the sex pistols rise to fame in 10 simple steps, told by manager Malcom Mclaren, its a must see for pistols fans. Although it was released after the death of Sid Vicious and the departure of Johnny Rotten, it still contains rare footage of both, including sid's last ever interview and unreleased studio tracks. Sadly this Film has become a rarity because of the fact it has been discontinued, I have a very bad copy of it on Video Disc and it is very hard to find on VHS, a couple of years ago it was released in Japan on DVD but sadly it wasn't released for long so to find a DVD version is even harder. So Instead of Releasing instead of just releasing Sex Pistols CDs For the pistols 25th Anniversary, Virgin should have released ... Read More:

VHS : Come Play With Me [1977]
At long last Mary Millington's classic 1977 movie is finally available to buy on DVD. The longest running movie of all time (it was exhibited in London for four solid years between 1977 and 1981) this is a nonsensical comedy set in a health farm with superstar Mary dispensing the 'treatments'. A cast of comedy actors like Irene Handl, Jerry Lorden and Ronnie Fraser compliment the naughtier moments and the whole thing is super Seventies fun! It's shame that the DVD doesn't have more extras, but it's great just to be able to buy the film after so long. A cult classic!

VHS : Too Late The Hero [1969]
This movie has very little to do with WW2. The story is fiction and feel is very sixties. Michael Caine is having fun with his character but not enough to carry the entire movie.

A big problem is the story which is complete fiction with no historic base other than yes the Commonwealth and Americans fought the Japanese in the Pacific but everything else is fabricated. So the story has more a Guns of Navarone approach to WW2 but the obvious difference is that Guns of Navarone is a hero movie where this is a anti hero movie. I like Guns of Navarone but not this film. Another thing to put you of - is special effects, when men are shot the bloodwork is terrible, like in an early Western.

The story is a very tried and tested story of a bunch of mismatched ... Read More:

VHS : The Wild Geese [1978]
This is a great movie, the kind of "oldie but goldie" which is worth to be rediscovered many years after the first viewing. It has a good and smart story, very good action scenes which impress even today, 30 years after and last but not least, a STELLAR casting. Just count - Richard Burton, Roger Moore, Richard Harris, Stewart Granger and Harry Kruger, in all five stars. And then Jack Watson, a less known actor, who plays sergeant master Sandy Young - and with his size and his face he is simply the perfect incarnation of sergeant masterdom. The story descibes a rescue operation in a fictif African country - a major mining company want to save a imprisoned African leader, hoping that once he seizes the power, he will give them favourable terms on mining concession. The story is very ... Read More:
