VHS : Gulliver's Travels [1996]
Because Gulliver is not only a story for little children, but at the same time a very ironical satire on social conditions, also adult viewers will find their pleasure. Who has a little insight into a psychological point of view, will moreover discover, that in the gigantic Gulliver, with whom the childlike spectator of course identifies himself at the first meeting, - that this Gulliver helps to become resistant against every nasty surroundings, which will happen to us in our lifetime, using a fantasy-based, satirical technique of making bad things small and unimportant! Swift gives a therapeutically example for children (always being the smaller ones, helpless, powerless at the lower rank of the social influence scale) how to make a wonderful ... Read More:

Whatever you think of the story, the fact that one man is seen as so important that a relatively dangerous rescue mission is undertaken , involving ultimate sacrifice, the giving of ones life, to achieve the result. Surely this ist he greatest story ever told, that of Aslan in Narnia too, and Jesus Christ dying on a cross that an individual, namely YOU, can be brought home to safety. Tom Hanks' character, Saptain Miller does this ultimately in the film, and others do so along the way.
But there is more! The concept of grace is also dealt with in the film. Amidst all the anonymous killing, there comes out of the German ranks a gunner who Millers small band decide to release, rather than kill him on the spot. They are too small a force to take prisoners, ... Read More:

We loved this movie. We are going on holiday to Scotland and thought it would be a good idea to get a taste for the area that we are going to. The scenery in the film is superb and we have watched the film a couple of times since obtaining it. Its the kind of film you never tire of.

Of course the Loch Ness Monster story is a good one to adapt to a movie and you are pulled along with curiosity throughout the film - so wanting, really, for a monster to be found and of course the viewer is not disappointed.

We brought the video, mainly to find out more about the location, but we were touched by the storyline and its characters. The only sad thing is that most of the Scottish characters who take part in the movie are initially cast in a rather ... Read More:

For sheer corniness I don't think you can beat these two Spiderman movies from the early eighties. If you purchase this film do not compare it to the recent blockbuster release with Tobey Maguire as they are in my opinion totally different. For a start off Peter Parker is played by a student/photographer that seems to have a PHD in everything but then again Nicholas Hammond who plays Parker/Spiderman in these films did'nt write or make the film so its not his fault. I am not criticising these films as the reason I bought them was to see if I could remember them from when I was a kid and you know what, I can't.
If you like Spiderman and a bit of american corniness then I recommend you take a butchers at these two 'spidey' films.

This is quite a pleasant film, centering on the attraction between two unassuming married people who meet at a wedding. They become friends - clearly they are soulmates - but are nice enough not to want to destroy their marriages, unsatisfactory up to a point as these are, because their respective spouses are not bad, just limited and fallible. These same spouses start an affair of a kind and things become rather complicated. There are good jokes and good moments ; also some rather flat sequences. Danson and Rosselini are good, and surprisingly convincing, as the soulmates, and there's some cookie fun with Lloyd Bridges as Danson's dad. I didn't like the film as much as many others did. It seemed to me to be trying too hard and too obviously to be a feel-good movie, ... Read More:

This is a fantastic movie. Whoopi Goldberg stars as a widow (Sarah Mathews) who decided to have a child following her husband's death with the help of the sperm bank, so that she will not be lonely. Years later her daughter, Nia Long ( Zora Mathews) discovers that her 'dead father Charlie' was not her father and on further discussion with her mum realizes that she was conceived with the help of the sperm bank. She decides to find her father and owing to a computer mix up, she identifies Hal (Ted Danson's character) as her father. Things were initially tense with all them getting used to the idea of Hal being her dad, with hilarious consequences. Just when they thought they had gotten used to the idea of all them being a family, a new blood test reveals Hal's not the father. ... Read More:
