VHS : Risky Business [1983]
The film that turned Cruise into a star, and led on to much else.
The opening scene tell you what to expect - a bunch of affluent teens, playing poker, cigars at the pose. Then we get Cruise's parents - afluent, very materialistic, and about to go out of town.
As soon as his friends get wind of this, they're bringing their girlfriends round for some 'privacy'. Cruise ends up with a local hooker - deMorney, and on the way past, mangles his dad's car, has a run-in with deMorney's pimp and let's not forget his mum's very precious egg.
Of course, it ends up with the parents coming back to an immaculate house, that Cruise has basically had to buy back from the pimp, and of course that sex scene on the train....

VHS : Rain Man [1989]
Dustin Hoffman's performance as the autistic man earns the two stars I've given this film. Otherwise, however, I find it objectionable. It is true that, for reasons still unknown, there are so-called idiots savants, whose disability in one area is balanced out by some splendid capacity in another.
In reality, such abilities are extremely rare. Films such as Rain Man tend to propagate the notion that a defect in one area will have some compensation in another. The truth is that Nature's not as nice as that, far from it. And from that comes disappointment in a disabled person's relatives.
I am disabled myself - with epilepsy, not autism - and am familiar and/or fluent with several languages, including early Greek. Epilepsy, however, ... Read More:

Usually I love deep, dialogue driven movies and this film is indeed well acted with a good cast ..... but thats about it. Other than than that, this is one of the dullest film that I have ever watched. So dull that I cant bring myself to comment on this film any longer.

This is the brilliant film about being the best pilots, silly nicknames, and cheesy one liners! ( I feel the need, the need, for speed!) Brillant 'dog fighting' action scenes, and a great soundtrack, Not to be missed!

VHS : Minority Report [2002]
Based on the novel by Sci-fi god Philip K Dick, Minority Report was Stephen Speilberg's stab at creating a dark and thoughtful futuristic who-dunnit in the mold of Blade Runner. Whilst it's not quite in the same league, Minority Report is still one of the most intelligent and best looking films Speilberg has had a hand in. His choice of pretty boy Cruise as his embattled lead is also inspired - pasty, hair shorn, close to emotional and physical breakdown - old Tom does a fine job playing against type.
The story involves 'Pre-Cogs' - people who can 'see' future crimes before they happen - the ultimate agenda being to totally eradicate murder and serious crime. When Cruise gets accused of a 'future' murder he goes on the run and is hunted by his former colleagues ... Read More:

VHS : The Few Good Men, A / Color Of Money [1992]
This double-bill encapsulates the phenomenon of Tom Cruise. From bright-eyed wannabe in 'The Colour of Money' to cocksure heart-throb in 'A Few Good Men', Cruise sealed his position as top Hollywood movie star. As ever, these films rely heavily on their supporting casts - and both serve up actors of the highest calibre who sparkle in their pivotal roles. Jack Nicholson is faultless as Cruise's Navy-nemesis in 'A Few Good Men' and the two-hander between Cruise and Nicholson in the courtroom finale remains one of the most memorable and volcanic confrontations in cinema history. Similarly, 'The Colour of Money' benefits from the experience of Paul Newman, who reprises his role rom the 1961 classic 'The Hustler'. Despite his age, Newman's crystal-blue eyed charm eclipses the ... Read More:

VHS : Eyes Wide Shut [1999]
What other reviewers seem to be forgetting is that Stanley Kubrick died during the making of this film, and therefore it is not complete. Having viewed this film several times, i admit that it is certainly his worst film - but that is only because Kubrick never had the chance to perfect it. I would only reccomend this film to a proper Kubrick fan, no-one else would be able to appreciate it.

VHS : The Last Samurai [2004]
General I am not the greatest fan of Tom Cruise (this is actually the only film of his I will willingly watch) but I am a great fan of Japanese history and culture and although this film makes Braveheart and 300 look historically accurate in places I still greatly enjoyed it and consider it to be one of my all time favourite films.

The film sees the drunken American Army Captain Nathan Algren hired by the modernising Japanese government to train their troops to fight the rebel Samurai leader Katsumoto. When Algren is captured in battle, however, he comes to get to know his enemy and get to know the Samurai way of life.

As I have already stated I am a fan of Far Eastern history and as such I must say that this film does terribly butcher this period of ... Read More:
