VHS : Blackadder - Blackadder Goes Forth - Series 4 [1989]
Blackadder has always been one of the funniest and best written British Sitcoms around and this forth and last series is one of the best from the shows run. The six episodes of the series all show-off the great script and the brilliant performances by both the main cast and the guest stars. All the cast seem to be thoroughly enjoying themselves throughout the series but alongside Rowan Atkinson and Tony Robinson, my favourite has to be Stephen Fry for his brilliant portrayal of General Melchett.

Each episode never ceases to be funny and the last episode of the series is still surprisingly touching despite the number of times that I have watched it. The one slight problem with the series is the laughter track that can be somewhat ... Read More:

One of the funniest specials ever made, but because of some unfortunate editing of this DVD issue you never find out just why the workhouse orphans are so looking forward to Easter...

This is simply the best. No competition.
The usual superb cast of Blackadder, Baldrick and Percy is joined by the superb characters of Melchett, Nursie and Queen Elizabeth. This is by far the funniest, wittiest series of the Blackadders. The episode involving Lord and Lady Whiteadder is undoubtedly the funniest thirty minutes ever on television.
The only complaint could be that it has to end and it is such a disappointment that there were only ever six episodes made.

Blackadder is definitely one of the funniest comedies i've ever seen. No matter how many times you watch one episode there's got to be some gag that'll make you laugh out loud. The Georgian series is the best, and the Elizabethan series is the worst, though it's still very very very very good. A reasonably priced DVD too. Spend a little money and be rewarded with hours of entertainment.

I found the film a fantastic interpretation of how completly loanly, trapped, and not forgetting just how fearfull someone would feel if in this situation. Julia Roberts portrat of this charector was excelent she brought out all sorts of emotions from my feeling fear, hurt, worthless, anger, I felt I was alongside her charector wanting to help her I found myself shouting at the screen on a number of accasions, also the way I was made to feel towards the husband was quiet real. The ending was outstanding I got to the point of very vilent thoughts being made towards the husband. A great insight to how domestic vilence can be at this extream and how difficult it would be for the wife to escape the violence the amount of planing it would take and the time this ... Read More:

I first heard of this film a few years ago, when during the seasonal holidays, it was put on television. Although it was not Christmasy in the slightest, it most certainly was a heart warming, fussy film. After her finest hour of heroine, Shirley Valintine, Pauline Collins returns, as an OAP, who is unfairly placed in an poorly run nursing home, by her manipulative son and social climbing wife. The film is all very tame-don't expect all the signs of a Tarintino, but this film is just marvellous. Poignant, humerous, happy, sad, warm...whatever you want to call this film, all you need to know, it is an appropriate and highly entertaining, Watch it!

I think these are just some of the best episodes in Blackadder II. Queenie gets more nuttier, Baldrick & Percy more stupid, Nursie more insane than usual, Melchett more funnier & Blackadder more witty. If you liked the first 3 epsodes in this series then you will love the final 3. This is Ben Elton & Richard Curtis at their finest.

After the disappointment I had suffered on watching `Blackadder II' after `The Black Adder' I wasn't particularly looking forward to watching `Blackadder the Third'. It arrived perfectly formed as the best sitcom I'd ever seen. The shift to Regency England seemed to suit the Production Design of BBC sitcoms and the writing team of Richard Curtis and Ben Elton where firing on all cylinders.

The cast also came into there own, where Blackadder II relied on hackneyed and previously mined comedy of the `Virgin' Queen and her court the residence of the somewhat stupid George, Prince Regent, brought to life by Hugh Laurie worked well as foil to Blackadder without the fret of execution which limited the wit of his ancestor.

The historical references ... Read More:

The best of the Blackadders by far. With Baldrick as stupid as ever and George longing to die for 'King and Country', Rowen Atkinsons pesimistic sarcasm really brings a touch of class to this hilarious series.
