VHS : Elf [2003]
I actually watched this when my (bonkers)GCSE music teacher decided we should see it as a class on our last lesson before Christmas...I was not impressed. Having seen the advert countless times, I'd decided it was immature, over heavy on toilet humour and used too much try-too-hard slapstick. I didn't want to watch it.
But how glad am I that I did!

This film is brilliant. It is laugh out loud pure genius (and made me want to believe in Santa again). Basically, a baby from an orphanage snuck into Santas sack on Christmas Eve and was taken back to the North Pole, where he was adopted by the elves and named Buddy. Buddy grew much taller than everyone else, couldn't make toys, was rejected by the other elves and all that tragedy ... Read More:

... that I was alive then. I love all the music in the movie and it feels very real in a unbelievable and fantastic rock and roll world.

Jason Lee is superb (as is everyone in this rich and talented cast) and the band Stillwater are so good you wish they had released a record themselves (since they did play the music and sing in the movie)

If you have somehow passed this movie over before or dont even like this music, the heart and relationships in the movie will make up for that.

This movie warrants many MANY viewings and gets better with each one.

VHS : Abandon (2002)
it takes a little while to get going, but when it does, its a great film.it starts of with the life of katie, whose in her last year at university and is doing well.she is soon interviewed by a detective about a missing person(embry) who she used to go out with.clips from their past is entwined with the plot, building up the story.i cant write much more about the plot othwerwise i'll give it away.it has a really unexpected twist with a really good ending.
its really well acted, surprisingly, considering it has katie holmes from dawsons creek in it.i personally find her annoying how she can only seem to smile from one side of her face, but i assure you her acting is very good in this film.the guy who plays embry works well with her and is very good looking ... VHS : The Good Girl [2003]
First of all I'm a huge fan of Jennifer Aniston and personally thought she was great in this movie. It was a bit weird trying to adjust to her not being Rachel Green, but she's a great actress and it didn't take long.

The film itself, despite being in the Comedy section and having 'Seriously Funny' on the DVD cover contains suprising few laughs. It it quite a serious film and it's certainly not the sort of comedy i was expecting, but when it's funny, it's funny! Look out in particular for Cheryl, Justines co-worker who comes out with some great lines. Also Gwen, the always happy, never angry other co-worker of Justines. Even though she's only in it for 30 minutes she's a great character and it's truly upsetting what becomes of her.

VHS : Big Trouble [2002]
Big Trouble was a fast moving film that left a credible storyline somewhere behind in the distance but it had a few very funny moments in it.It was impossible to get to like or dislike any of the characters because they all seemed to interact so shallowly and surreally.
Tim Allen has starred in a much funnier and involving film than this about a man who takes on a bully at work - Joe Somebody.Buy that instead.

VHS : The New Guy [2002]
This is probably the most terrible film I have ever watched. Well made it about 20 minutes in and could not bear anymore. Only saving grace is Eliza Dushku but you can just skip to the scene where she is in the changing rooms. God knows how this has got 4 and a half stars. It is a comedy and my friend and I did not laugh once.
