The film follows her through her life of writing, alcoholism, torrid affairs, and soul-crushing disappointments, which is not nearly as depressing as it sounds. Director Alan Rudolph made another film, The Moderns, about this period in American life when words were valued more highly than they are in the TV- and cinema-dominated world of today, and this one makes for a great companion piece.

Leigh, an underappreciated actress, may be at her best here as Dorothy Parker. Parker is a complex character to play - a talented, charismatic, ... Read More:

View this as a whole and you will be left up, down and numb via the film's realism and gritty content. The character depth is so close to reality that you empathize with their situations. I am proud to own this alongside other work by Modine.

VHS : Breakfast of Champions [2000]
When Americans try to be humorous British style they are a great success because they add some tropical fever to the British unearthy corrugated folly. Then we enter a world of completely disjuncted, dysfunctionning, absolutely soused absurd hilariousness. You jump from one insane derangement, to two or three barmy batty screwy lunacies, to half a dozen ludicrous asinine morons out of their gourds, and even a full dozen of wild mental doolally bananas crackpots. And that is exactly what this film is, and we can just relax and let the delirious hellish ketchup of these hare-brained nutty apes flow down our throat and swallow the sugary syrupy vinegar of the funny nightmare of a suicide performed in great style and with a high-rise, high-life flamboyant ... VHS : Mortal Thoughts [1991]
i saw this movie on TV last night and found it to be a superb thriller, excellently acted by Demi Moore (which was a complete surprise) to the point that I would say it's one of the best acting performances of any actor I've seen, full stop.Bruce Willis was not so great, but his part was minimal. I thought this was on a par with some of the great noir thrillers of the 40s, and was in no way inferior. The plot was intricate and extremely intelligent and I can't understand how in nearly 20 years I've never even heard of this movie, let alone seen it before.
