VHS : Priest [1994]
this was my first gay film and managed to stay on top of my favorites.

The lead actor did a terrific job portraying a priest who is torn between his "duties" and homosexuality.

hey, at least his lover was an adult unlike most of the highly publicized real life scandals with children.

VHS : Spooks Series 1 [2002]
This type of show does not come along often enough. Well written, superbly acted, fast paced, compelling and thought provoking. You are hooked after the first 5 minutes. It was late and my husband and I made the mistake of thinking we would only watch about 20 minutes of an episode. We were riveted to our chairs for the entire hour. I'm not even sure we blinked. To those having trouble hearing it, on the "Desktop" at the beginning, use your up, down, left or right remote keys and navigate over to the phone and hit Play. It will give you an option of stereo (2) or monaural (I think, the computer voice is hard to understand) (5). We found it easier to understand on (2) stereo. Then pick the episode you want to watch. Bottom line: This is a great show. Don't ... Read More:

VHS : Ravenous [1999]
Having read the other reviews I rented this last week and wished I hadn't, the plot seems to be missing its beginning and its ending (don't be fooled into thinking its about werewolves) and the soundtrack was so iritating I considered watching with the sound off!

I stuck it out as there are a few good moments and I kept hoping it would get more interesting. I definately expected more as Robert Carlyle and David Arquette have both made some good films but this was not one of them.

VHS : Face [1997]
This film has 3 parts. Part 1 very credible, very enjoyable. Part 2 not very plausible, but entertaining. Part 3 ridiculous action, plus ridiculous sentimentality.
HOWEVER, there is an array of excellent performances - with twitches of emotion - and eyes that show inner mind activity. Even those appearing briefly - like Jason's girlfriend - give their all. The facial close-ups show the turmoil and emotion within each character. Ray Winstone is excellent, so is Phil Davis (or Davies). Robert Carlyle's southern accent is just about acceptable, but he does well given his natural dialect.
The filming is very good. The music OK.
For Robert Carlyle fans, Looking after Jo Jo is better, made around the same time. It's plausible and gets across some good messages.
