VHS : Breaking Glass [1980]
Lovely punkette chanteuse Hazel O'Connor plays a blinder in the somewhat autobiographic role of Kate, desperate to succeed, whilst maintaining her ethics, in the cut-throat music business.

Hazel's brilliant songs are enough to recommend this movie in its own right but, unlike some musicals, Breaking Glass is far more than just a vehicle to promote the artiste's work. The sense of unease stoked by the rise of neo-Nazi and anarchic groups in late 70's/early 80's urban England and the shadier side of the music industry are expertly recreated here.

Furthermore, Hazel's depiction of the roller-coaster rise to stardom, resulting in mental breakdown, is impeccably observed. Why this hugely talented woman's career as an actress ... Read More:

VHS : Still Crazy [1998]
I really enjoyed this movie, which worked for me on several levels, or at least across several generations. I was there in the seventies listening to bands like Strange Fruit, and the film got the feel of those times right. Now I'm an old geezer like the band members, and the film got the feel of that right too. Connolly as roadie was a good choice, providing a salty anchor for the sometimes thin narrative.

One thing that seems 'off' about the way the film was promoted is the praise heaped on Mick Jones (Spooky Tooth, Foreigner) and Chris Difford (Squeeze) for the great music. Their names don't even appear in the IMDB listing for the film and I got the impression that the real force behind the music was Steve Donnelly, who is credited ... Read More:

VHS : What's Love Got to Do with It [1993]
This is a great movie, the music and acting are fantastic, however the quality of the film is terrible, especially at the beginning. Little Anna Mae looked more like the Elephant Man on our copy of the DVD (unless we have a duff one) and spoilt our enjoyment of the film. But we hung on in and whether it got better quality or we just got used to it, it was a great film!

I really liked this film. Sequels can often be a real let down, but Poltergeist 2 explains why Carol Anne was chosen by the poltergeist, with a bit more insight into the family.

I found myself asking a few questions throughout the film - where was the older sister, and how did they get a real person so skeletal looking to play Kane. I looked it up and discovered that she was sadly strangled by her boyfriend in real life after the 1st film, quite shocking as I assumed it was just due to a money dispute or something similar that caused her to be absent. As for Kane, he was so skeletal looking because he was dying from stomach cancer and passed away in the middle of filming, hence the appearance of the beast towards the end of the film.

VHS : The Juror [1996]
Without Demi Moore and Alec Baldwin, this script never would have made it to film. It is a run-of-the-mill story about a single mother (Demi Moore) who is being pressured by an organised crime figure (Alec Baldwin) to vote "not guilty" on a high profile trial. The mob's leverage is her love for her son. Yawn. But Moore and Baldwin turn in fine performances: Moore as the defiant, intelligent, and terrified Annie, and Baldwin as her sociopath handler. Baldwin is so convincingly creepy and so demented in his take on everything that the audience fears intensely for Annie's survival.

This film contains some honestly terrifying sequences. Unfortunately, the ending is weak, and you're left with few memorable scenes. While this film was definitely a good escape ... Read More:

Well, this is amazing. Three absolutely excellent films all in one box. GI Jane is action all the way, top film. The Juror, a courtroom drama, is really good too. its a little slow to start off with but Demi Moore is excellent and Alex Baldwin really convinces you that he is a baddie. And as for A Few Good Men. This has got to be one of the best courtroom dramas ever!!! Tom Cruise, Demi Moore and of course Jack Nicholson. Best quote in this film is "You can't handle the truth". Watch it to understand.
Overall, this box-set of films is completely top. Buy it. You won't be disappointed.
