VHS : Doctor Who - Delta And The Bannermen [1987]
I've never really liked this story. It was the low point of Sylvester McCoy's doctor. I prefer 'Time and the Rani' and 'Paradise Towers'. Every Doctor had their naff stories, but thank god things picked up with 'Dragonfire' and maintained that momentum. Sylvester McCoy ended up giving us one of the best Doctor Who stories with 'Remembrance of the Daleks' and one of the best Doctor Who seasons with his final four stories `Curse of Fenric', `Battlefield', `Ghost Light' and `Survival'. Unfortunately they cancelled the show because of naff stories like this.

I do enjoy light-hearted stuff like `The One Doctor' from Big Finish, but this is just poorly executed and poorly acted.

It's hard to believe that "Silver Nemesis" got less than 5 stars average rating. This is an exceptionally good show, especially when you consider that it comes from the Sylvester McCoy era, where most shows were real stinkers! The lovely and attractive Ace is certainly a welcome addition, and the contrasting dialog between her and the Silver Nemesis sent chills up my spine. When Ace says, "Catch you later" to the Silver Nemesis, it's both funny and scary because we know Ace didn't know what to say. If you were faced with the Silver Nemesis you wouldn't know what to say either. It gives us a sense that these characters are very much out of time from each other, and have come together to do what they are suppose to do. Not everyone enjoys this form ... Read More:

I hate what people say about this horribly underated story. Its fantastic, funny and I love it to pieces! The Kandy man does not in the slightest remind me of Bertie Basset. He`s a brilliant villan, and him constantly screaming "GILLLBBBEEERRRTTT!!!!!!" just cracks me up. As for that loveable hound Fifi, it`s so sad when Helen A becomes a hypocrite over what happens to her pet(no spoilers here!). Ace is on top form, with the seventh doctor at his best (and you`ll cheer as he talks a man out of shooting him). A complete hoot from start to finish " The Happiness Patrol" is a memorable event in doctor who`s history.

This is a charming series that has been available in the states only briefly on public television. The characters are engaging and funny while reminding us fondly of our travels in Ireland. The scenery and story lines provide a wonderful entertainment. We're delighted to find the second series available on DVD. We'll quickly purchase others and hope that they become available soon.

To be honest I am not an avid fan of the Sylvester McCoy era but this story, Remembrance and Survival are the only exceptions.

Before I even watched this I had high hopes for it because it oversees the introduction of Ace, one of my fave companions. This story gives her a good introduction and by the time of Survival it's nice to see how much she has matured from here.

The story itself is actually quite good and has plenty of twists and a cast of strong guest characters.

Sylvester McCoy puts on a pretty average performance as the good Doctor (then again to be fair it is the end of only his first season). However Bonnie Langford is diabolical as Mel and makes me releived that this is her final story. Tony Selby mainly steals ... Read More:

Having seen the series on TV, I simply had to purchase the tapes when I discovered them on sale. I find the story delightfully charming and the persons so warm and believable they immidiately felt like long time friends. Recommended for everyone who likes a charming blend of wit, drama, and rural charm.
