VHS : Crash [1996]
The dialogue is so thin you have to invent a lot of the story for yourself. Good crew with some good performances and just on the Art House side of Soft Porn. Should have been better.

VHS : Spider [2003]
A subtle, slow and sad film, this. Ralph Fiennes, when he's on top of his game, does understatement as well as anybody, as anoyone who's seen his performance in The Constant Gardener will know. Here, he is heartbreaking as the deeply troubled protaganist of the title; a stutterning, shambling man in a scruffy coat, whose stubby, chewed, nocotine-stained fingers speak of a soul in torment as poignantly as any words could. Released from an asylum after an unspecified number of years, Spider returns to his old haunts and slowly, gradually, the ghosts from his past that have helped shape this piece of human wreckage begin to emerge.
This is not an easy film to watch. Cronenberg will not be rushed, and does not patronise the viewer by offering easy answers ... Read More:

VHS : Existenz [1999]
Love it or loathe it, this movie is essentially a one line gag, although it will probably take you 93 minutes to get the joke. Although it's about a new totally immersive virtual reality game [eXistenZ], the plot has nothing in common with films like 'The Matrix' - there's no alien 'war of the worlds' threat or suchlike. In fact this film has more in common with having hot tea and crumpets inside Star Trek's Holodeck with the safety protocols off. Besides eXistenZ is firmly set in our world and time, although it probably does represent a glimpse of the Playstation-8 touchie/feelie gaming future. Like 'Sixth Sense', the films power is totally dependent on not knowing what happens at the end (and the middle for that matter). I don't see how anyone could criticise the ... Read More:

VHS : The Dead Zone [1983]
Watching this very good transfer on the Prism release, its hard to imagine that anyone could remake a better version of this story. Walken is quite simply perfect for the lead role and despite its age (and his haircut) this feature has stood the test of time exceedingly well. I found the sound and picture on this release better than on some of the other studio releases. The lack of extras cannot dock a star because the picture and feature are near perfect. A must-have for all King fans and darn good film lovers alike.

VHS : Scanners [1981]
We have only one choice in this world : to escape into a virtual reality or to accept paranormal human capabilities. Cronenberg takes the second road. The human being has capabilities no one can imagine, and they can easily be produced by some chemicals that enhance the genetic possibilities of the human potential. But Cronenberg is interested in the ethical side of things. Such a scanner has a power that can lead to absolute control of the planet and humanity for his own sake and profit or for the good of his fellowmen. Cronenberg invest this dilemma in two brothers who will have to confront each other for the ultimate victory of one on the other. Add to this the greed of normal people, especially if they are corporate CEOs who want to make money from absolutely anything that can be profitable, ... Read More:

VHS : Videodrome [1983]
This film is a popular film and is well cited as an influence to both musical artists and film makers alike but i found this to be far too much waffle for my liking and it seemed to last an age and this wasnt what i hoped for when i finally watched this for the first time.
James woods is a television channel producer who is always on the lookout for the next big thing that can shock his viewers, when he views what appears to be a snuff movie he wants to meet those responsible and here his world changes, debbie harry plays his love interest and she does very well here but this film doesnt move me in any way,the twist at the end is poor and i couldnt take to anyone in the film at all,the special effects are good for the year but apart from that i thought this was a very poor film and expected more, blast ... i have been looking forward to reading the book but i thought i would save some time and watch the film too. However it was an awfully confusing concept to deal with and i really didn't understand half of the thing. Shame because i'd looked forward to the story for so long and it sort of diappointed me.

VHS : The Brood [1980]
David Cronenberg's best early feature 'The Brood' deals with the concept of violence within a family and how it is often passed down from generation to generation. As a horror film it may be hard for many who like their films purely escapist to stomach but as a mataphor for child abuse and the tearing apart of a family it is an unmatched artistic acheivement. Oliver Reed gives a brillant performance that makes up for the films other shortcomings in the acting department.
