VHS : Pinocchio : Special Edition [1940]
now it may be a classic, but i'm afraid i was really disappointed with this film. my 5 yr old was frankly bored watching this, it was very slow to get moving. the story line was not what i was expecting. the jimmney cricket / conscience was to abstract for him to understand in the way it was presented. and there was a terrible bit later on with pinnochio getting drunk and smoking cigars. that bit raised a few tricky questions.

what i had expected the main story line to be - pinnochio's nose growing long when he lied, occured only once for about 20 seconds in the middle of the film and never again.

we will not be watching this one again
sadly not enjoyable or educational

VHS : Alice In Wonderland (1951) (Disney)
First time i saw this movie i was about 6 or 7 years old and it became one of my favorite cartoons.
Then i watched it last night (Im 24 now) and it was more intresting than the first time.
I think Alice in Wonderland is a pure acid trip story, check the colors, voices, the worm with the bong and that mushroom (Magic mushroom maybe) she ate that made her big and small ??????? and also that weird cat.
This movie is made in a way that makes any one who watches it love it.

with the amazing animation and the trademark singalongs you know this is a disney film what can you say when the people at disney pump out great film after great film? well for me this film doesnt quite deserve the prestigus 5 star mark purley because i thought that the story seemed very very rushed but apart from that the characters are great physically and vocually (espseacially mr smee)and the constantly present "disney magic" is there so i am not complaining (that much) definatly worth a look young or old

4.Lady And The Tramp [1955] starring: Peggy Lee, Barbara Luddy, Larry Roberts (II), Bill Thompson, Bill Baucom

Great story line, much less grand in scope than the more modern Disney films but with tons of character. The songs dont suffer from the treacle sweetness of recent attempts either. Its one of my favourites!

VHS : So Dear To My Heart (1948) (Disney)
Jerry is a boy growing up on a farm back in the times of "Grundy's General Store" and everyone getting excited when the train comes through town. One calm night, the now-born baby lambs came into the world. They were all healthy little things, but one had black wool instead of white. Jerry, seeing this pathetic little thing, had some sort of connection with it, and loved it from the start. However, Granny didn't aprove of this situation, for she knew that it wouldn't earn it's keep, and it would eventually become a pet. But Jerry was persistant, and he won. After getting some advice from the wise old owl, Danny, (that's what Jerry named the lamb), progressed into a fine sheep, who often got into mischief. Granny was stubborn about selling Danny, but... but... well, maybe ... Read More:

I love dogs, Disney and easy to watch, happy family films. This is all of the above. It's funny, sentimental, well made and downright enjoyable. Classic scenes ("We are Siamese" song and Lady & Tramp sharing spaghetti)stick in the memory forever and seem fresh even 30 years after you first saw it. One of the greatest Disney fims though not as good as Aristocats in my view which has exceptional humour to counterbalance the typical Disney sentiment.

this film from 1947 is not as well known as most other disney animated films. It was being produced as the second world war was coming to as close and because most of disney's profits were low due to audiences in europe being cut off and money being trapped in other countries disney didn't have the money to create the masterpieces such as Fantasia, Snow White or pinocchio which had gone before it. however the film is still enjoyable the seven segments are all set to popular music (well it was popular back in 1947) and features acts such as the andrews sitsters. The film shows that although disney didn't have a lot of money they could still entertain. Another reason why this dvd is so good is that it is completey unedited. In recent years many films from the 40's and 50's ... Read More:
