VHS : Babylon 5 - Vol. 5.08 - Darkness Ascending / And All My Dreams, Torn Asunder [1994]
DARKNESS ASCENDING. Lennier is on a secret mission to find evidence of the Centauri attacks on the Alliance members' ships. However, Sheridan finds out and Lennier is called back. But devoted to his mission, he steals a fighter and flies off. He wanders in hyperspace, seeking evidence. Oxygen runs dangerously low, when he's confronted by the ugly truth. A truth that will eventually lead to war.

Meanwhile, Mollari returns to Centauri Prime to investigate the matter. And G'Kar stays at his side as a bodyguard.

AND ALL MY DREAMS, TORN ASUNDER. The war begins as a blockade to Centauri space. Sheridan urges the Alliance members not to fire first. To achieve that, he sends the White Star fleet to patrol the space involved in ... Read More:

VHS : Xena - Warrior Princess - 1.14 / 1.15 / 1.16 - A Fistful Of Dinars / Warrior... Princess / Mortal Beloved
Universal finally get around to releasing three of the best episodes from Season One of Xena: Warrior Princess.

A Fistful of Dinars, the weakest episode on this tape, sees Xena and Gabrielle joining forces with some dodgy characters to search for ancient Sumerian treasure - and (for the first time on the show) Ambrosia. Good action scenes, good characterisation and a chance to learn a bit more about Xena's past.

Warrior...Princess is the comedy highlight of the season. Xena is asked to impersonate her exact lookalike Princess Diana in a attempt to thwart potential assassins. This leads to lots of camp action and fun with mistaken identities, with Lucy Lawless doing what she does so well - is it Xena playing Diana, Diana ... Read More:

VHS : Xena - Warrior Princess - Series 2 - Eps 2.25 - 2.35
The first half of series 2 of Xena in this box set is really excellent. I hadnt seen any of the 11 episodes featured on these tapes, and I wasnt dissapointed. All the episodes are great, but in my opinion the best episodes were - remember nothing, return of callisto, girls just wanna have fun, the xena scrolls and here she comes.... . This box set is a bargain, and I would advise any xena fan to buy it, especially if you have never seen the episodes before. This box set is quite a treat for those fans who like the xena episodes to contain alot of comedy and action, rather that dark and drama.

THE PARAGON OF ANIMALS. G'Kar writes the declaration of principals for the new Alliance. However, no one seems willing to sign it. Meanwhile, a Ranger arrives at the station badly injured, carrying a SOS from a distant planet. Telepath Lyta Alexander enters the dying man's mind in order to find out the truth and sees him as he crosses over. This brings back memories, and we find out an interesting point of Bester's past: too many deathbed scans... Meanwhile, the SOS from that planet gives Sheridan a chance to prove that the Alliance is more than words, as he launches the White star fleet to aid those in need. And from the background, Byron's telepaths assist the new alliance in an unexpected way and Lyta finds in them a family she has long lost.

VHS : Babylon 5 - River Of Souls
When Babylon 5 was at it's height we took it for granted. We all think everything's going to last forever at some point. That's when Maxwell's 2nd law of thermodynamics kicks in - entropy. The inevitable decay of Babylon 5 had to come at some point. However, this is most certainly not it. It's a little ropey at times, not a patch on "In the Beginning", or the wonderous Season 3 - The Coming of the Shadows, but it has a certain feeling that the end is coming very soon. Even the characters speak of the end, of changes and you do get the feeling that the party is now officially over. The children have left the nest. I would recommend this to anyone who wishes to see a very attractive space Captain in a basque and suspenders or who has watched BBC ... Read More:

VHS : Babylon 5 - Vol. 15 - The Coming Of Shadows / Gropos [1994]
What can one say for a Hugo winner episode? Apart for the great directing, acting and special effects, the "Coming of the Shadows" triggers the series of events that will lead the heroes to the Shadow War. Bringing in mind an Ancient Greek Tragedy, where the characters are driven by powers beyond their will, this episode evolves around Centauri Emperor Tourchan. A really tragic figure, he comes to B5 to ask forgiveness for old sins. But those sins drug him down and he dies before he has the chance to save his people's future. Mollari, a puppet of his Dark allies, makes sure of that. Meanwhile, G'car tries to act honourably, whatever that may cost. And in the heart of the events the Vorlon ambassador foretells the End: "In fire." After ... Read More:

VHS : Babylon 5 - Vol. 21 - Comes The Inquisitor / The Fall Of Night [1994]
The two final episodes of the second season are two of the best. In the first one, titled "Comes The Inquisitor', we see G'Kar struggling against enemies and kin alike in order to fight for his enslaved people. And when he lacks the trust of his own people he finds an ally where he least expected. Meanwhile, a strange human comes aboard Babylon 5. His mission is to determine whether Dellen and Sheridan are fit for the war ahead. He's a human saved by the Vorlons, a remnant of times long gone, and once known as "Jack".

I was speechless at the end of the episode. It's listed among my favourites.

In the next episode, we see a Narn warship coming to B5 for supplies and repairs. At the same time, Earth Dome signs up an agreement ... Read More:

VHS : Babylon 5 - Vol. 4 - The War Prayer / And The Sky Full Of Stars [1994]
The first episode, "The War Prayer", is about racist attacks on the alien population of Babylon 5. This episode is really an examination of racial prejudice and isolationism, and works perfectly well. It also serves to set up the story arc of these xenophobic attitudes that are growing on Earth and amongst many humans. This is the building block for one of the series' long running story arcs.

The premise and moral is driven home a little too hard at times, but fortunately it is interrupted with some brief insights into Londo, Kosh, and Ivanava which are interesting and refreshing. Certainly not one of the best episodes of the series, but it serves a purpose.

The second episode, "And the Sky Full of Stars", is the real ... Read More:

VHS : Babylon 5 - Vol. 7 - Signs And Portents / TKO [1994]
The first episode of this tape is excellent. Ambassador Mollari recovers a long lost Centauri artifact of power, while a plot is set to overthrow the Emperor. This plot involves the Raiders, while a Centaurian psychic, Lady Ladira foretells the destruction of B5 and sees Shadows that move. And among the turmoil, a dark man appears, moving like a shadow, asking each ambassador the same thing: "What do you want?"

A fascinating episode that gives out hints of the return of an Ancient Enemy.

The second part, TKO, is one of the weakest episodes of the first season. It involves a human fighter who comes to B5 to fight in an alien tournament, while Ivanova has to deal with her father's death. If you are a fan of Mortal Combat, you may like ... Read More:

VHS : Babylon 5 - Vol. 11 - Points Of Departure / Revelations [1994]
POINTS OF DEPATURE is the first episode of the second series, and is a very good episode especially when you take into account the amount of plot that the episode has to get through.

The episode begins to use hearing about commander Sinclair's reassignment to Earth dome ambassador to Minbar. So this story had a lot to do, it had to introduce us to the new commander of the station, John j Sheridan. Straczynski had to write this episode in a way that wouldn't leave us feeling robbed that we had spent a whole year learning Sinclair's character only to have him ripped from under us in the season break. Fortunately, in my opinion, Straczynski worked a miracle with this episode. This episode must be seen, its very important to the arc in that we learn a lot about ... Read More:
