VHS : Laurel And Hardy - Swiss Miss [1938]
Swiss Miss is a well directed film, and when you watch the first scene it is hard to belive it's over 70 years old. But the crucial problem here is it's scattiness. There are some classic scenes such as the piano-across-the-bridge routine, the part where Stan tries to con brandy from a rescue dog, and the cheese makers shop scene. Other foul parts include the wasteful romance scenes and pointless songs (although they are fun to listen to!) The very end surprise made me laugh but I won't give it away! I really want to integrate the good parts into a short, fast paced version. It's either a high three stars or a low four stars rating.

VHS : Laurel And Hardy - Block Heads [1938]
As usual a simple plot - Ollie finds Stan at a retired soldier's institute and invites him home for a meal.
Although this is a partial remake of one of their shorts, there are some wonderful sight gags during the film, which are classic L&H. For me the film is further enchanced by the familiar faces of James Finlayson and Billy Gilbert.
Not their best, but would still recommend to all comedy film fans.

Stan & Ollie star as mousetrap salesman in a studio-bound, typically Hollywood version of Switzerland. Despite a dull romantic sub-plot getting in the way, this is a hugely entertaining and often hilarious later-day Laurel & Hardy operetta with some of their most famous sequences.

VHS : Great Guy (1936)
This is what James Cagney is all about, wisecracks, cockiness, hard as nails and no-nosense charisma.

The film is about Johnny Cave, the Deputy Chief of the Department of Weights and Measures as he fights against widespread corruption instigated by 'Respectable' businessman Abel Canning.

Although the plot sounds serious, the film is anything but. It is done in the goofball comedy style that was prevalent in the 30's and works especially his 'bickering' with fiance Mae Clark and his reactions to the tall stories of his colleague James Burke.

This is a definate for any fan of Cagney but what raises it from ordinary to 4 star rating is the dialogue and the great cast that delivers it. Dialogue is good but it is nothing ... Read More:

This DVD of the band Sailor was recorded on 16th November 2002 at an extraordinary concert at the Swan Theater (Town Hall) in High Wycombe, England.
