VHS : Haunted [1995]
A really underrated and superbly acted ghost story, similar in feel
To the Others. Aidan Quinn specialises in debunking paranormal
Events. But he is called out to a country mansion to investigate
A woman who claims she is haunted.

And when events start to happen all is not at it seems.
Great chemistry Between Beckinsale and Quinn. Also A.Andrews and Gielgud are very Good. Andrews strange relationship with Beckinsale and a subplot About Quinns ghosts of his own past either real or imagined, are all explained at the end. But for me Beckinsale steals the movie she looks great and plays her role well, highly recommended.

VHS : Educating Rita [1984]
A lovely film. Michael Caine does a wonderful job playing the self-destructive but intelligent and warmhearted Dr Frank Bryant, and Julie Walters immerses herself in the character of Rita, a lively and witty hairdresser who decides to enroll in an open University course. The script is perfect, making for a touching film full of insights into human relationships, hopes and desires.

As an aside, for anyone familiar with Dublin, the film was shot in the city, mostly in Trinity College, which is fun to see as it was in the 80s, and works as a perfect setting for the film.

VHS : The Sea Shall Not Have Them [1955]
Possibly one of the last British wartime films from a long forgotten age. The story is based around a Royal Air Force air sea rescue launch that is plagued with misfortune. Into the scene crashes a Lockheed Hudson with an officer carrying top secret plans. Everyone jumps to it and its full of old and familiar types, the chap who makes it, the SNCO who knows the score, the kind skipper who buys one, getting too close to the enemy
Some of the scenes are fascinating, the Sea Otter picking up the German airman, the dockside at Mountbatten. It is a fascinating film if you have time to watch and how Michael Redgrave and the others were involved in such a low key film is pure mystery but it is good and good for a laugh - watch it get it - enjoy the black and white.

VHS : The Spy Who Loved Me [1977]
The most sophisticated spy in cinema returns for one of the best Bonds of the 70s as Roger Moore reprises the role as the British agent in Lewis Gilbert's action adventure.

007 travels to Egypt to find out who is behind the mysterious disappearing of submarines and he is helped by Russian agent Major Anya Amasova (Bach)

This is probably one of Moore's best performances as the secret agent as he delivers a lot of sophisticated lines and jokes into the role. His attitude towards the mission and the situations which arise are brilliant and his partnership alongside Bach is one of the best Bond partnerships ever made.

The plot is consistent and very interesting to see the relationship between the two agents grow and become tense and intriguing ... Read More:

VHS : You Only Live Twice [1967]
I have read (I am actually reading "The Man with the Golden Gun") the whole Ian Fleming works this summer, and a good decision it was...
Perhaps 4,5 stars would be a better rating, but the Japanese plot idea (so much BEFORE Clancy or Crichton ever thought about it!) is a must read (always having in mind when the book was written -middle sixties-), the setting of Blofeld is probably the weakest in the trilogy... Hemingway meets E.A.Poe...
I love the minus gadgets and more stamina balance, and the fact Bond REALLY is made from flesh&blood... at least on paper.
I would recommend the experience of reading the books to anyone having enjoyed a film of the saga (or even not... still a better approach probably).
The end is quite puzzling but the beginning of the last novel ... Read More:

VHS : Sink The Bismarck! [1960]
SINK THE BISMARCK was produced as a factual account of the epic battle, overlaid with a thin patina of fiction involving a couple of the characters in order to put the events into human perspective. Specifically, Kenneth More stars as Captain Shepard, the new Director of Operations in the Admiralty's War Room, and Dana Wynter as his assistant, Lt. Anne Davis. It's Shepard's enormous bad luck that the German's decide to send the new battleship Bismarck on its first combat sortie (Operation Rheinübung) into the Atlantic during his initial day on the job. And, though Wynter is positively stunning in her "Wren" (WRNS, Women's Royal Naval Service) uniform, the acting, at least in the War Room, shows a distinct British reserve unlikely to elicit more than a tepid "Good show, what" from any viewer. But, after ... Read More:
