VHS : Doctor Who - Logopolis [1981]
This story is a milestone in the original series of Doctor Who for one reason and one reason only: it was Tom Baker's last story. For this reason, it seems to be irrationally elevated to classic status in Who fandom. Sadly, Tom doesn't bow out in style at all.

It doesn't compare well with any of Tom Baker's classic stories, such as Pyramids of Mars, Genesis of the Daleks, Seeds of Doom, Ark in Space or City of Death. The main problems with Logopolis lie with the script, a lack of money, hammy and wooden acting and Tom's general lack of interest in proceedings.

The script - such as it is - has many daft ideas, such as the Doctor attempting to "flush out" the Master from his TARDIS by landing it in the Thames and opening ... Read More:

VHS : Doctor Who - Kinda [1982]
Written by Buddhist Christopher Bailey, Kinda is one of the most interesting stories of the fifth Doctor era. It is steeped in ideas concerning culture, how different races react to each other, and how people become frightened of ideals they can not understand. Clearly as well the story is also influenced by historical events, the arrival of explorers in the third worlds.
In this case an Earth expedition force is sent to a tropical Planet to report on whether the Planet is fit to colonise. However the crew gradually become unhinged by the influence of the Planets natives, and the evil snake The Mara which also affects the mind of regular companion Tegan.
At this stage in the programmes history, the series had three regular companions ... Read More:

VHS : All Creatures Great And Small - Series 1 - Vol. 4 - Golden Lads And Girls / Advice And Consent [1978]
All Creatures Great and Small is a piece of classic british television and these 2 episodes are no exception. In fact i own the whole first series on video and all worth every penny. The program is set in the Yorkshire Dales in the late 1930's and based around the lives of 3 vets (well 2 and a half actually) in a country practice. They is recently qualified vet James Herriot (Christopher Timothy), senior partner Siegfried Farnon (Robert Hardy) and his little brother, student Tristan Farnon (Peter Davison). I won't give the story away you'll just need to watch it. The series has a good blend of serious bits mixed with comedy, so it's easy viewing (although if you don't like the site of blood or needles, or hands up cows i'd advice looking away for certain ... VHS : All Creatures Great And Small - Series 1 - Vol. 2 - It Takes All Kinds / Calf Love [1978]
I love this television series. We still see it here in the US in the San Francisco Bay Area on KTEH channel 54, San Jose, on Saturday nights at 8:00 pm. With all the violence and mediocrity on television these days, it's wonderful seeing this intelligent and touching series from another era. Christopher Timothy, Robert Hardy, and Peter Davison are marvellous and demonstrate their talents as both dramatic and comedic actors. It's an excellent series for the entire family and highly recommended for anyone who hasn't had a chance to watch it. I hope it will be available on DVD before too long.

Having just watched this video, it has brought back some great memories. Sunday evenings as a child, tucked up on the sofa with my parents and grandparents.

This series must surely be one of the best to ever come from the BBC. There's a bit for everyone - the animals, the fantastic scenery of the Yorkshire Dales, the laughter and the tears.

It is the sort of world we would all like to live in - the sort where you knew your neigbours, where people spent time with each other and where you could leave your front door unlocked!

I'd argue that no other series has such a 'feel good' factor.

Absolutely fantastic!

The Yorkshire Dales and the warm company of Helen, James, Siegfried, et.al. is more than enough for the serious nostalgic. The splendour is in more than the scenery and the circumstances; together they weave a wondrous atmosphere of pre-war innocence that is appealing and appreciated. Be transported beyond the cares of worldly discomfort as the Dales envelop the mind and the soul in blissful delight. Journey back with James and be rejuvenated.

Please do not miss this opportunity.
