directed by: Peter Hall
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

VHS : The Marriage of Figaro [1973]
This version of The Marriage of Figaro will make the opera available for the appreciation of the average person in the street. English is used throughout with spoken dialogue.

Both the singing and dialogue are well articulated and one should have no difficulty in understanding what is being spoken or sung.

The performance is excellent and well produced.

In places it is a little vulgar, but then so was Motzart, and overall very funny. It belongs in the same category as the Whitehall farces but with the inclusion of some first class music.

In general this is a version not to be missed by any one other than those who feel that the operatic medium should be kept out of reach of the average person.

2.A Midsummer Night's Dream [1981] starring: Glyndebourne Chorus, James Bowman, Ileanna Cotruba, Curt Appelgren, Cynthia Buchan
