VHS : Jackie Brown [1998]
In Tarantino's third film, Pam Grier stars as Jackie Brown, who is arrested for bringing illegal money into the country which ultimately takes her into a case involving one of her close friends, gun dealer Ordell (Jackson).

Once again covering the crime genre, Tarantino brings the characters and plot to life with cutting edge direction, and specific writing in a great portrayal of the crime world.

A lot of crime films focus upon action and car chases at every possible opportunity but this crime drama exploits the more specific details of what gun dealers and police are like with the unnecessary action. In admiring the realism of this concept, it does last for the entire film with hardly any action and can trail off ... Read More:

VHS : Reservoir Dogs [1993]

Having watched this movie for the first time in ten years, I was blown away by its brilliance and power. Lets get down to the brass tacks- this is a low-budget movie and it has a cheap amateur patina. First movie from the big-chin Quentin Tarantino who came out of nowhere (i.e., a video store in Manhattan Beach, California) and turned Hollywood on its ear in 1992 with this breath of fresh air.

Reservoir Dogs has a fantastic unconventional structure, cleverly shuffling back and forth in time to reveal details about the characters, experienced criminals who know next to nothing about each other.
From the start we know something has gone wrong, and the plan has blown up in the criminals faces. One by one, the surviving robbers find their ... Read More:

VHS : Pulp Fiction [1994]
I liked this film when I first saw it and now I have changed my mind with repeated watching. Like all Tarantino films, the dialogue between characters is unnatural. It feels like one person talking to themselves. The characters all talk in this faux intelligent geeky way about tiny things and there is no discernable differences between outlook or delivery of the characters words. The story doesn't hang together very well and the use of celebrity cameos is just celuloid cronyism. I fell for the hype, save your time and money and don't buy into this trash. Travolta is a fake, Jackson can't act, QT is annoying, Thurman is lovely, Keitel is cheesey and not at all hard like he makes out. There is too much wrong with this film to call it a classic. It's silly. At least Tom ... Read More:

VHS : Kill Bill - Vol. 2 [2004]
I don't understand the hype about this movie at all - or about any Tarantino film that is. I got the impression a 12-year-old wrote and directed it! The worst part about it: it is OVERLY CHEESY! Although probably intended that way, it totally ruined the film for me. Yes, many Asian films are cheesy, but in this one it simply doesn't fit.
The excellent acting by most of the cast is wasted. A really good fighting scene at the end doesn't save it either.
Being a revenge movie you will have to compare it to others of that genre - namely "Ms. 45 / Angel of Vengeance" and doing so KILL BILL simply doesn't stand a chance. KILL BILL is simply a motion picture comic book, a farce. The characters are so unbelievably ridiculous - a Japanese schoolgirl as a bodyguard? Sorry: no ... Read More:

I suspect that this appeals to fans of 'games' rather than films.
Tarantino has undoubtedly proved his talent in the past, but this time was not only trying to be too clever but was aiming at a totally different audience. If you spend hours on your pc playing games or watching cartoons this may appeal. But if you're expecting a film with a half decent plot and a few characters you care about - forget it!

Having just watched this film for the first time, I think a good way to describe it is to compare it to a gig. To start off there are two pretty irrelevant stories by two unknown directors which both leave you thinking 'what's this all about?', kind of like the support act. But they do set the scene for the second half of the movie, showing that Roth as the bellhop is having a real bizarre night. Then the headliners come in, Rodriguez and Tarantino, both producing hugely entertaining and enjoyable short stories which make you really pleased you watched the film. The performances by Roth, Tarantino and Jennifer Beals also help the job... definitely worth watching!!
