VHS : Made In America [1993]
This is a fantastic movie. Whoopi Goldberg stars as a widow (Sarah Mathews) who decided to have a child following her husband's death with the help of the sperm bank, so that she will not be lonely. Years later her daughter, Nia Long ( Zora Mathews) discovers that her 'dead father Charlie' was not her father and on further discussion with her mum realizes that she was conceived with the help of the sperm bank. She decides to find her father and owing to a computer mix up, she identifies Hal (Ted Danson's character) as her father. Things were initially tense with all them getting used to the idea of Hal being her dad, with hilarious consequences. Just when they thought they had gotten used to the idea of all them being a family, a new blood ... Read More:

Two Hollywood greats combine well to create this lovable film.

Set in 1930's USA, Clint Eastwood plays the tough cop and Burt Reynolds the charming private detective as they fight two crime gangs, intent on seizing financial ledgers which could ruin one gang or elevate the other, should they fall into the wrong hands.

Humorous film with plenty of action thrown in.

I saw this film some time ago, and frankly can't remember very much about it, except that I could see no connection between this and the original version 'Mr Blandings builds his dreamhouse'; the original was after all a comedy. Perhaps I should re-aquaint myself with this effort, maybe the grey cells have deteriorated through several years of more recent tosh to make this seem hilarious today. I am prepared to change my mind, but don't hold your breath.

VHS : Mrs Winterbourne [1996]
Where to begin? This is without a doubt one of the worst films that I have ever, ever seen. Boring, cliched, obvious (and that was just Ricki Lake's 'acting'). There are undiscovered Peruvian tribes that could quite easily have guessed the ending from watching the first half-hour (although this would be a flagrant abuse of their human rights). Overuse of co-incidence as a plot device and ridiculousness abounds as the film struggles to maintain the illusion that such a palpably nonsensical situation would ever be possible.

This is sentimental, escapist rubbish of the worst Catherine Cookson kind. I am surprised that Brendan Fraser ever agreed to participate in this crime against cinema.
