VHS : What Ever Happened To Baby Jane [1962]
From the era when great acting and a great storyline were key, this is a classic. Good use of tension building, fabulous gritty acting, solid cinematography. You can't go wrong. Enjoy...

I bought this film for my collection on the strength of the other reviews. Bad mistake. The quality of the transfer is poor and getting to the end of the movie was a challenge. NOT one for the collection imho.

VHS : Ulzana's Raid [1972]
Ulzana's Raid follows a cavalry patrolled by Bruce Davison's idealistic but inexperienced West Pointer and guided by Lancaster's scout in their pursuit of a small band of Apaches who have left the reservation to rekindle their `power' by torturing and killing as many settlers as they can find. It's a stark, brilliant film that is a notable influence on Walter Hill's Geronimo (which even borrows from it directly on a couple of occasions), but has a level of cruelty that the later film lacks. Unlike its contemporaries which took up the Native American cause, this never idealises or demonises either side: even Lancaster's scout proves catastrophically less competent in matters of strategy than in tracking or attempting to explain the enemy's way of thinking. ... Brilliant film. Watched this on video in the early 80's. Great black comedy.
Good pace, funny scenes a plenty, some serious stuff too. It takes you along then bam! Hits you with humour or thought provoking moments.
I keep searching and searching....... hoping one day it will be out on DVD. Why it isnt is way beyond me. Must be to do with legal rights or something stupid.
If you want to get it on VHS then i say go for it! great film.

This film is absolutely brilliant and completely groundbreaking. It's hard to believe that it takes a small country like Great Britain to produce the best movies but we certainly showed Hollywood a thing or two back in the sixties when we were the centre of the universe. The performances and storyline in this faultless piece of celluloid make it unmissable and one that anybody would be proud to own in their DVD collection.

6.4 For Texas starring: Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Anita Ekberg, Ursula Andress, Charles Bronson

VHS : Caught [1948]
This movie stars the great James Mason, Robert Ryan and Barbara Bel Geddes. Barbara plays the new wife of a millionaire played by Robert Ryan who treats her very badly, so to get away from him she leaves her luxury surroundings to move to another low class town, she gets a job of a Doctors receptionist to Dr.Quinada played by James Mason, the obvious happens(they fall in love),only she can't stay with him as something happens that makes it out of the question! The whole cast is good especially James Mason, but I feel he should have played Robert Ryan's role of the evil millionaire rather than that of the wimpy angelic Doctor. The movie could have been a little better but is very entertaining and has it's moments!
