VHS : Gotti [1996]
I'm actually quite suprised at the relative lack of awareness about this film, well in comparison to other popular mob films. I'm an avid fan of mob films and having read several books on the Gambino crime family I thought this would be an interesting buy-sure was!

My review: Firstly, the cast is simply brilliant- especially Armand Assante. His potrayal of John Gotti is a good reflection of the man himself. It becomes evident that the film is very well researched, which is a real bonus. I was so enticed when watching the film that i didn't realise the 104minutes fly by. The film is sharp, funny at times and very accurate. It leaves you with that feeling of "damn, this really happened, there really was a mafia- there really was ... Read More:

VHS : The Hitcher [1986]
seems there are lots of 5 star reviews for this film and whilst everyone is entitled to their opinion I just don't get it. It's a film from the 80s, not much happens, no one talks very much and then it ends.
A young man is framed by a psychotic hauer for some murders he is pursued by comical, Texas cop stereotypes whilst jumping round all the holes in the plot. That's about it. 'tense, gripping thrill ride'? I've had more excitement driving to work.

VHS : They [2002]
This film has everything you could want from a horror film: a cute cast (especially the lead), lots of errant machinery, dodgy flashlights, lightning, power failures, movement in the shadows, and glimpsed monsters, oh, and a very cute lead. There's even a full moon (well, nearly full). It doesn't break any new ground but it does succeed in achieving an effective sense of mounting dread. The performances from the mostly unknown (and did I mention cute?) cast are good, and the filming and effects are polished; particularly the monsters, which move in a wonderfully creepy way. It even manages a neat and satisfying ending. Although in the grand scheme of all things cinematic this film only warrants three stars in the world of horror flicks it easily deserves four.

VHS : Nowhere To Run [1993]
Van Damme was on a role in the late eighties, early nineties, making some of the most fun, simple action movies of the era. His ability to always get a laugh, and being renowned for his nice-guy qualities have ensured his continued success, even if most of his movies now are straight-to-DVD capers.

In Nowhere to Run he stars with an established cast as another misunderstood nice guy, an escaped convict who decides to help a young widow and her family who are struggling against a local developer who is forcing them out of their home. There is a good amount of action, some strong performances, and some very funny moments. Van Damme plays Sam, a mysterious convict who has escaped from prison. He sleeps in a tent outside a small town where two local young kids find ... Read More:
