VHS : The Drum [1938]
The Drum came out the year before The Four Feathers; it's fun but not as good. The time is the years before World War I. Sabu plays Prince Azim, a young princeling from a British protectorate up near the Khyber pass. His uncle, Prince Ghul, killed Sabu's father, the rightful ruler, and chased Sabu out. Prince Ghul is played by Raymond Massey with sneering lips, bulging eyes and dark makeup. After several adventures as Prince Azim tries to escape Prince Ghul's assassins, young Azim contacts Captain Carruthers (Roger Livesey), whom he had met earlier. Carruthers and a small contingent of British troops set out for the principality to inforce a peace treaty, not knowing that Ghul is organizing the mountain tribes in a revolt against the British. ... VHS : Sahara [1943]
If anyone wants to see how effective a WWII propaganda movie can be, I'd recommend Sahara. It's the story of a small group of Allied soldiers, led by Sergeant Joe Gunn (Humphrey Bogart), lost in the Libyan desert, who are determined to defend a small outpost against a battalion of Germans. The outpost has a well, but the well is almost dry. It produces only drops of water. Joe and his comrades will use the promise of water to delay the Germans, fighting them off in an almost hopeless battle, to give the Allies after the fall of Tobruk a chance to regroup. Please note that elements of the plot are discussed.

Sahara hits its marks to get all of us civilians back home a reason to be proud of our fighting men, to be resolute in the fight ... Read More:

VHS : The Thief Of Bagdad [1940]
I first saw this film during the war, it was a brilliant way to get your mind off the many hardships that war brings. As an 11 year old I was enchanted by the film and seeing it again 65 years later, it is still enchanting. Much of this is due to the supurb script by Miles Mallison (he plays the dotty Sultan) which has humour and poetry to it. The cast is also terrific, Sabu as the thief, John Justin, the handsome hero, June Duprez the beautiful princess, Rex Ingram the giant genie and Conrad Veidt, the most wicked of all magicians. A great, great film.

VHS : The Jungle Book [1942]
This early version by a great director is well worth it especially at the current price (5.99) A mix of real animals and real people will always outdo an animation. The acting may be a bit stilted and the fake "Indians" may be non-pc but my 6-year old loves it amd for film buffs it is interesting to see Sabu in a fairly early colour film by a famous director
