VHS : Nuts In May [1976]
I had never heard of this film, but I first watched it a couple of years ago and it blew me away. This is now firmly establised as one of my favourite films of all time. Whilst I know that many people will not understand the film, I now actually judge people on whether they like this film or not. I have changed my views on my own friends through watching this superb film. People who do not like this film are simpleton's in my view, and example of this is my friend Wikey. He does not like this film, and therefore I like him less as I know his brain does not have enough capacity to understand the subtle humour this film provides.

It is best to watch this film when you are slightly tipsy, and it always gets me howling with laughter. ... Read More:

VHS : Wings Of Desire (1987)
If you believe in endless possibilities, and that the physical and the spiritual worlds are intermingled, this film is a must to see.
It's exquisitely directed by Wim Wenders, and the cinematography by Henri Alekan, in both b&w and colour, is breathtaking...the Hollywood re-make in '98, "City of Angels", used much of the same imagery, but missed the eerie intensity.

There are scenes that are unfogettable...the short one of the desperate man in the subway, who starts to find a solution within himself as the angel sits next to him...the two angels (magnificently played by Bruno Ganz and Otto Sandler) discussing life starting from when "history had not yet begun", and so many more.

The score by Jurgen Knieper is also fabulous, ... Read More:

VHS : Prospero's Books [1991]
I must admit I don't like Greenaway as a rule, and I find Prospero one of Shakespeare's least appealing characters. But this film is quite extraordinary in all sorts of respects. Nyman's music is fantastic, and used here to good effect (Nyman didn't think so, and broke up with Greenaway as a result, but that's his problem). Ditto Sarah Leonard's singing. An ancient Gielgud is splendid as Prospero. Michael Clark's performance as Caliban has to be seen to be believed. The visuals are unlike anything else you have ever seen. (What sort of casting agency can come up with about 100 people aged from about 5 to about 80, all naked for all of the time? Perhaps they are the members of a naturist club? They play the "spirits" of the island.) The idea of focusing on ... Read More:

The storyline is unconvincing and without logic. The acting is amateurish; characters are stilted in behaviour, their speech separated with long pauses which for me doesn't make pregnant with meaning, just boring. Camera-work is posed, self-conscious and arty - loads of shots of Harry Dean Stanton (Travis) in profile musing, agonising craggily, driving through the night etc etc. Some vistas. And Ry Cooder's score matched the film.

Yeh, "...completely pointless and a waste of time..... "

I fell in love with this film fifty years ago. I have seen this film over thirty times in the passing years, and can still find it the funnyist film I have ever seen. In my opinion it is the cult film for comedy. You can see it over and over again and still laugh just as much at it. Buy it and you will not be disappointed, I am so glad that it has been finally released for a new generation to sit down and enjoy. Watch and laugh, your money will not be wasted !!!!!

VHS : The Boyfriend [1971]
Where is the DVD release of this classic piece of Ken Russell camp ? It showed what a good actress Twiggy could be (where is the DVD of Madame Sousatzka ????) and is enormously indulgent and good fun. Please remaster the original director's cut and release it on DVD. Given the ridiculously high prices being asked for old ex-rental VHS tapes of this film, a DVD release sounds like it would be a profitable exercise.
