VHS : Doctor Who - Terror Of The Autons - 30th Anniversary - 1963-93 - Full Reconstructed Colour Version [1971]
Having recently read Doctor Who Magazine's 'Fact of Fiction' feature on this story, I was compelled to revisit it. Dusting down my copy I poured a glass of wine and settled down to see if time had been kinder to this than it has to many Doctor Who serials from Jon Pertwee's tenure. Happily I discovered that it had - the introduction of The Master provided what was to become the greatest fictional rivalry since Sherlock Holmes and Moriarty; Jo Grant's comedic turn as the Doctor's ditzy new assistant was an instant success and the return of the sinister and malevolent Autons provided the icing on the cake. Particular highlights must include the evil doll waking and attacking the factory boss, The Master's killer chair, the Autons in carnival heads ... Read More:

VHS : Doctor Who - The War Games
this is one of the doctor who giants. a walloping ten episode gem that actually maintains pace and interest from the start to the finish. Patrick Troughton is at his peak on this, his final story. The location filming is superb for the time and the fight scenes are well performed. And the last two episodes are two of the best in the series history, full of rare emotion and performance, especially for then early years of who. there are sinister generals, great squabbling rulers, some psychedelic sets and some memorable moments throughout. It must have been a job to write this monster who, but it has been done expertly well. and the directing just adds to the coolness of this powerful adventure. one of the best who's ever. the final farewells to Jamie ... I loved this series. I feel that it's all about the end of an era of Buffy and Buffyverse. If I could have the Buffster back I would. Unfortunately, I will have to settle for the collection instead.

VHS : Buffy The Vampire Slayer - Season 6 Collection - Part 2 [1998]
Part 2 of the sixth season of "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" continues the themes of adult life and self-destruction introduced in Part 1. Season Six rubbed the fans up the wrong way because it was the Slayer and her friends who were the Big Bad this season, making wrong decisions, splitting apart and becoming weak to the point where the pathetic "Evil Trio" could actually pose a threat to them. Though it makes for depressing viewing sometimes, especially in filler episodes, it all eventually comes together in style.

The main characters continue to be well-fleshed out and are fun to watch, although Dawn (Michelle Trachtenberg) and Tara (Amber Benson) are as good as left out for most of the action. Tara was a sweetly mellow presence, but never really developed ... Read More:

Buffy the vampire slayer is by far the best Sci-Fi show ever!!
It's been written amazingly, the acting is phenomenal. It has such an amazing array of genres, like comedy, drama, romance, musical, horror and sci-fi. This season is in my opinion the best yet. The musical was amazing, the cast are truly talented. If you haven't seen it yet, it's a must-see program!

This is certainly an interesting view of the past. Amazing accents, strange attitudes to honour and duty, smouldering passion and eccentric approaches to hygiene (dropped some cakes on the floor? pick them up and sell them!). The filming is great and the acting, though patchy at times, is generally very believable. Only the extensive voice-over and inevitable lengthy shots of a thoughtful Celia got in the way of my enjoyment. A worthy classic!

By the way, the reported length is wrong - the main feature is just over 82 minutes, not 107.

VHS : Buffy The Vampire Slayer - Season 3 Collection - Episodes 12 - 22 [1998]
This box set is probably the best becsause it contains classic episodes like 'Doppelgangland', 'Earshot', 'Enemies' and 'Graduation Day Part 2'. Season Three was a classic season and the second part was the best; everything was good...Angel featured, Willow was going out with Oz, Faith was wreaking havoc and the terrific baddie The Mayor was getting ready for his Ascension. We love How Things Used To Be!

VHS : Doctor Who - Ice Warriors
Forget about the four Ice Warriors episodes, and put to one side the (admittedly excellent) documentary on the Missing Episodes; the reason you should buy this video is because it has the single best episode of Dr Who on it; The Underwater Menace episode 3.

It's a superb runaround escapade of an episode, with a witty script, and performances that capture the nature of the characters. Heck, it's worth the price just to see Joseph Furst cheiwing the scenery as the villainous Professor Zaroff. Watch him ham it up for all its worth, marvel at how he almost bursts out with laughter in the climactic scene. And of course, the episode contains the now legendary, "Nothing in the world can stop me now" line...

What more could you ask for...?

(Well, the other three episodes ... Read More:

VHS : Doctor Who: The Master Tin Set - Colony In Space / Time Monster
Two stories from Jon Pertwee's time as Doctor Who in the early Seventies, both featuring the Master as played by Roger Delgado. The first story, entitled `Colony in Space' is the first time we see the third Doctor make a visit to another planet following his exile to Earth. A group of colonists fight against a ruthless mining company on a barren planet. The Doctor is sent there after the Time Lords discover that the Master has stolen the secrets of the Doomsday device, located on the planet. There are some interesting moments in the story, notably when the Doctor is inside the alien city. Overall though it's a bit of a dreary affair, which only sparks into life when Delgado appears during episode 4. Watch out also for an appearance by Helen Worth, later to find fame in Coronation Street.
