VHS : Mary Poppins (1964) (Disney) [1965]
In this film, the Banks family suffer from the typical problems of a family in 1910. Mr George Banks (David Thomlinson) is too wrapped up in his work at the bank to notice his children, Jane and Michael, who always seems to be in trouble. He thinks that his life is perfect and at one. Then Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews) shows up and proves him wrong.
From jumping through chalk pavement pictures to bringing life to the Banks household, Mary Poppins is the best nanny.
The animated sequence is pure Disney (I like the cute Irish fox, myself.) The penguin dance is particularly memorable.
And you'll be all over the ceiling as you laugh with funny Uncle Albert (Ed Wyn)!
Julie Andrews is brilliant as Mary Poppins. She has a great ... Read More:

For any dancer this is brilliant!!!!! The characters are cleverly developed, showing dancers of different abilities, shapes and sizes! Liza minelli portrays Mavis who has been let down by the west end - yet finds a new career in teaching dance. Its a must see!

VHS : Riverdance - The Show [1995]
This video is one of the best I have ever seen. I have had it since 1995 and keep watching it at least 3 times a year. My family, my daughters and grandchildren alike, ask me to put it on as they are mesmerised (as am I) by the timing and endless dancing of the Riverdance group particularly the lead dancers (Michael Flatley and Jean Butler). The combined Irish music and dancing make you have goosepimples when the actual Riverdance begins. I would recommend it to anyone.

VHS : The Sound Of Music [1965]
If "West Side Story" was the best musical film of the sixties, then "The Sound of Music," adapted from the long-running Broadway musical play about Maria Von Trapp and her singing family, was certainly the most popular...

With a story that includes the right amount of family sentiment (the Von Trapp children never quarrel among themselves), religion (in the Hollywood tradition of serene, kind nuns), romance (actually two romances, one adult, one adolescent), and anti-Nazi feeling (Captain Von Trapp refuses to surrender to the Nazi invaders)--and with director Robert Wise who is in fact a solid, conscientious craftsman and a fluent story-teller mercifully free of grandiose pretensions, "The Sound of Music" is perfect with its sumptuous ... YES BACK IN '71 I BOUGHT THIS DOUBLE VINYL ALBUM, AND READING THE NEW SLEEVE NOTES IN THE CD, WAS ONE OF THE FEW WHO DID. I WAS MIGHTILY IMPRESSED WITH THE ALBUM, BUT COULDN'T HELP THINKING THAT I WAS LISTENING TO CHICAGO'S FIRST TWO ALBUMS, HOWEVER THIS IS NO DETREMENT TO HEAVEN BECAUSE HEARING THE REMASTERED VERSION NOW IT STILL IS A DAMN GOOD SET MADE BY A VERY PROFESSIONAL GROUP OF PEOPLE AND I DID NOT REALISE THAT THEY DISBANDED SOON AFTER. SURELY AT LEAST SOME OF THEM MUST STILL BE IN THE MUSIC BUSINESS.

The words 'lost progressive classic' when applied to an album that has not darkened the music room's door in decades are guaranteed to instill foreboding. This original, beautifully played record almost merits the accolade. Released in 1970 to the thudding of jaws hitting table tops, 'I Spider' does owe something in its footings to the likes of Gentle Giant and, in its interplay of sqwawking sax and grand guignol organ, early Van der Graaf Generator. But where it transcends emulation is in the deft seque from prog to modern British jazz. Vibraphone player Lennie Wright and Tom Harris on sax and flute imbued Web with the sensibilities of Neil Ardley and the late and very lost Mike Taylor - jazz's Syd Barrett, echoed in keyboard player and writer Dave ... VHS : Hear My Song - Director's Version [1991]
It doesn't matter if you have never heard of this Irish tenor, or even like that kind of music, this is a marvelously warm film. Adrian Dunbar is a promoter of a club, in the UK, who normally books look-a-likes, however after several disasters he decides to find the man himself - Josef Locke (yes, this is the correct spelling). He travels to Ireland and after some searching he finally meets him and persuades him to come back and do one last performance. The reason for Josef being in Ireland is to avoid UK tax, of which he owes an undisclosed amount. With the UK police trying to catch him this is a more than pleasant caper. (And I bet you can't help humming the main theme, "Hear my song")

PS Don't miss the cow and the well scene.

VHS : Michael Jackson - Ghosts [VHS TAPE]
Michael Jackson proves again that he can sing, dance and act like no other but also that he can ridicule those who try to poke fun at his genius and multiple talents. This is so much better than Thriller in so many ways. DVD release please if anyone is listening. Keep on doing it Michael. I am a fan, have been so for 40 years, but even non-fans would enjoy this.

VHS : Kiss Me Kate [1953]
I had been searching for this version of Kiss Me Kate for ages and finally found it. A great version of the play(Taming of the Shrew) within a play this combines comedy, dancing, singing and a wonderful score by Cole Porter. It is one of MGM's wonderful fifties musicals. Howard Keel as Fred/Petruchio is terrific & Kathryn Grayson(Lily/Kate) is no slouch either. Ann Miller & Tommy Rall as secondary leads have marvellous dance routines but the real highlight is the performance of 'Brush up your Shakespeare' by Keenan Wynn and James Whitmore as the gangsters sent to collect a debt from Fred. I have seen live performances of 'Kate' but this is the best ever.
