VHS : Doctor Who - Cybermen (Limited Edition)
OK let's get this straight: Attack of the Cybermen is not the very best Doctor Who serial but it is a far cry from being the worst and much better than any of the new David Tennant Cybermen stories or 'Silver Nemesis'. The ratings were actually good on transmission and Colin Baker makes an excellent Doctor here, having already made the role his own. The violence is refreshingly different and not OTT IMO (Jon Pertwee was not afraid of being violent when he needed to be and this goes here).

The continuity stuff is on the heavy side but it does not ruin the story or make it inaccessible to the casual viewer. It just adds a (slightly too thick) layer for those in the know.

One of the better Colin Baker productions (the ... Read More:

VHS : Watch With Mother
If your children constantly demand Telebubbies, Bob the Builder or Thomas the Tank Engine them give them a change with a classic episode or two of Watch with Mother. I don't know whether it was the operatic singing of nursery rhymes in Andy Pandy, the incomprehensible dialogue of Bill and Ben, or the surreal plot of of Muffin the Mule but this video never fails to keep little horrors quiet for an hour or so. The best thing is that you can and sit and enjoy the episodes too!

VHS : Fawlty Towers - Series 1 & 2 [1975]
A beautifully scripted timeless classic that you never grow tired of. Fawlty Towers is the sort of series you can pop into your machine on a rainy sunday afternoon and it will instantly brighten up your day.

John Cleese and Connie Booth remain legend writers for this masterpiece alone.

It you're yet to see an episode and are buying this item, you're in for a treat.

VHS : Doctor Who - Planet Of The Spiders [1974]
Every time I watch this one, it starts off superb but then by episode four it starts to collapse. Patrly because the Metebelis Three people are so stupid and can't act. There are mostly good speical effects all along, and the regeneration is fairly standard, but female spiders?

8.Paul And Pauline Calf's Video Diaries [1994] starring: Steve Coogan, Patrick Marber, John Thomson

VHS : Paul And Pauline Calf's Video Diaries [1994]
Absolutely hilarious depiction of Manc lad Paul Calf, with his Chuck Norris haircut and total inability to function as a respectable citizen. Meet his mate Fat Bob, sister Pauline Lulu Calf, and two appearances by playwright Patrick Marber, as Roland the student and Spiros ("like a Greek god, only fatter and with a tache"). Very funny scripts and set-ups, this is a character Coogan ought to revive (Calf in his 40s, still on benefits despite getting four numbers once at the lottery?). One grumble - why isn't this on DVD yet? - my VHS is getting worn out.

1: Tom Baker is excellent as the deranged Xoanon

2: Louise makes a brilliant entrance as Leela

3: The horda are cute.

4: The tesh are gits, but likeable ones, with their arm flapping!

5: Tom is great as ever as the Doc too.

6: The tribe have more developed characters than usual.

7: Great comic moments, especially how Leela runs into the TARDIS despite the Doc not really wanting to take her.

8: We for once get a sizeable chunk of story to see whats happened after the enemy has been thwarted, which is a nice change.

9: the staue looks impressive.

10: Good actual 25 min eps for a change!

Need I go on?

10.Doctor Who - The Deadly Assassin [1976] starring: Tom Baker

VHS : Doctor Who - The Deadly Assassin [1976]
This is an excellent adventure written by Robert Holmes, probably the best script writer the show ever had, and who wrote some of my favourite episodes including this, plus 'Spearhead From Space', 'The Ark In Space', 'The Talons Of Weng Chiang' and 'The Caves Of Androzani'.

The Galifrey set is looking a bit dated now, but it also looked quite low-tech in 1976 as well. What really makes this a special episode for me, is the brilliant plot, plus the Doctor going through the Matrix. The Matrix is an hallaguenic dream sequence with the Doctor facing imaginary threats from the Master, plus also being chased by a Bounty Hunter. The threat scenarios are very imaginative, for example: being shot at by a WW1 fighter plane, getting trapped on a railway line, having the water ... Read More:
