The 1986 Formula 1 season was one of the best ever. This is a well presented video, with Clive James' wit and love of the sport evident throughout. There is good coverage of the qualifying and race sessions, with enough of the politics in between to keep everyone interested, and without becoming bogged down with too much detail.

If you want to see a season where there was actually racing and overtaking, this is the one to go for. The season goes down to the last race (in Australia), with three drivers each having a chance at the coveted Drivers Championship.

This was the season where Damon Hill finally won the world championship. It also seen the debut of super rookie Jacques Villeneuve who nearly won the title at his first attempt as Hill began to choke toward the end of the season, and Villeneuve had a late surge.

Schumacher joined Ferrari and would stay there until his retirement in 2006. He was able to drag the 'red bus' to three victories.

David Coulthard joined a struggling, winless McLaren, joining Häkkinen for what turned out to be a six season partnership. He remained there until 2004.

Olivier Panis won a fantastically unpredictable race in Monaco, for his one and only GP victory.

This was Martin Brundle's final season, as Jordan left ... Read More:

of the 13 season reviews i own this was the first one i bought and is probably the best. some brilliant drivers like prost senna mansell piquet and other world class performers like alesi berger patrese and the debut of one michael schumacher. the detail of the qualifying and races is brilliant while its interesting to see how times have changed. ferrari mclaren benetton and williams competed for wins whilst the likes of jordan tyrrell dallara and even minardi had their moments.

id buy simply because of the quality of racing, the excellent footage and coverage. plus to look back at days when more than 2 teams and 4 drivers could win races.

1982 was a year of superb close action racing, of ground effect and of terrible tradegy. Its nice to know that formula one today is so much safer, that aside I dont believe modern formula one gives you the overtaking or race action that you had from this period. I love seeing the legends of Lauda, Prost and Piquet not to mention Mansell, Pironi and Rosberg (the Champion) all battling wheel to wheel. You could never predict a race win back then, no launch control at the start line killing all the fun at the start, no pit lane speed limits, no 10 place driver penalties, and backmarkers that had to be overtaken with skill not flagged out of the way. Bring back this kind of racing and keep todays safety. Anyone agree?
Oh and I love Clive James's ... Read More:

A thoroughly good and long video! This is what F1 season reviews should be like!

This was a fairly dominant season for Schumacher as Damon Hill cracked under the pressure and wasn't helped by his inferior pitcrew. The video demonstrates how Benetton were able to get pitstops and strategies so right compared to Williams, and how that benefited Schumacher over Hill.

This season seen well deserved first victories for David Coulthard, Johnny Herbert and Jean Alesi. Included are some fine career summaries of all three drivers.

Clocking in at nearly three hours, this is how videos should be used.

Niki Lauda and Alain Prost contested a very competitive season of formula one action. Lauda already a double world champion paired with Alain Prost at Mclaren had his work cut out to match the pace of the young and determinded a quick new boy. Although Prost had been around in formula one since 1980, he actually came very close to being world champion in 83, but this was his best chance thus far in a very competitive McLaren MP4. However the cunning Lauda had other ideas, and his brilliance and race prowess eventually proved too much for Alain and he won his third World title. I watched this season unfold back in 84 and it made me a huge Lauda fan. His driving through the field was legendary. Great review and I love Clive James's commentary. Also amazing ... Read More:

VHS : Formula 1 Grand Prix Review 1997
This was a phenomenal season of racing. Jacques Villeneuve won the championship at only his second try after surviving an attempt by Schumacher to take him out of the race.

World Champion Damon Hill had a terrible year in the uncompetitive Arrows, save for a dominant drive in Hungary where lost a certain victory thanks to gearbox problems. He finished second. Sixth place in Britain was his only other top six result.

This also marked McLaren's comeback to being a race winning team. David Coulthard had a good season, taking two victories in Australia and Italy. Häkkinen took his first victory thanks to Coulthard giving way, sowing the seeds for Coulthard's eventual subordinate role within the team, despite deserving equal treatment ... Read More:
