VHS : Barbara Currie's Power of Yoga
I have worked through the 10 minute miracle at the beginning of this tape so many times that I have worn it out! It is a really good toning routine that can be used on a daily basis and fitted in to a really busy day. It made me feel very relaxed and 'loosened up'. I recommend this. I only wish it was available in DVD then it wouldn't wear out!

VHS : Barbara Currie's Yoga
I have many of Barbara's videos, and this is up there with them. This features at least five moves not on the '7 secrets', 'the power of yoga' and 'the total body plan', so is worth adding to the collection for a variety in sequence and a general change in words and settings etc... i need change in my pratice and Barbara is a fine teacher, so its good to get as many as you can to vary the practice. This i think is slower than the aformentioned titles, and there are less repeats, however there are a lot of moves on this video and the sequences are nicely laid out. One word of caution i would add to anyone collecting Barbs vids is that this is the 'Fabulous Shape forever' video from 1997 repacked, just so that you dont get both. This is still ... Read More:

I really enjoy practising yoga to this video. Since Annabel is doing an easier version of the various postures, both beginners, intermediate and advanced yoga practitioners, can use this video. Relaxing voices, relaxing music/sounds but dynamic work out/practice.

I first watched this dvd and felt that it was too hurried but after practising with it a few times, I found the pace perfect. I really enjoy doing this routine as the poses are quite standard but are also held for a few breaths. I also like Kisen's positive encouragement and safety tips. This dvd is not for beginners really but if you do find it too much at first, don't give up on it as we improve with each practice and it will come eventually.

VHS : Yoga Workout - Intermediate Level - Stephanie Foster [1998]
I bought this looking for something that would take me beyond Barbara Currie who I had been using for years and find very good - but I was very disappointed.

Firstly, it's not at all well designed as a teaching video. Stephanie doesn't face the camera or show you moves - you basically just see a rather dark view of a class - and she doesnt introduce the people, or show you how to do moves - unlike Barbara Currie, where the camera clearly zooms in on her or one of her students to show you how to position it. It also moves to quickly for you to hold poses or practice - and it's really hard to watch while you do it.

Secondly, her voice drove me absolutely potty - it is grating and she looks and sounds miserable as sin - not a good ... Read More:

The continuity and monotone of instruction allowed me to focus on what was actually happening in my own practice, refreshingly free from the imposition of the teacher's personality. A great video for those who want to practice yoga rather than be entertained.

VHS : Leah Bracknell - Yoga And You
This dvd contains a very gentle routine, that is best suited to absolute beginners who have never practised yoga.

The music and settings are good. The mix of postures is good. Leah's voice is clear, soft and gentle; very nice to listen to.

The instructions are also good, Leah always makes it clear when you should breath in and out, which is really important in a yoga workout.

On the down side, I find the pace is a bit quick at times. The relaxation is also not good, as it is a very short section and Leah talks all the time, which doesn't really give you time and space to do what she is telling you to do.

Also, if you aren't new to yoga, then this workout is simply too gentle and not challenging enough.

Katy does the warm up a little fast for my liking. I find myself going at my own pace as I take longer breaths but I like the way she shows an alternative sun salute. It is quite dynamic and you certainly raise your heart rate. It is not for beginners, more intermediate I would say. I like Geri's funny comments such as "Good job no-one can see me!" and "This one's good for wind", which Katy completly ignores. Some postures I find difficult depending upon the time of day, such as the crab but you can always leave bits out. This is quite a long dvd compared with others I have so I don't get to use it as often as I'd like.

I am very over weight and didn't think I would be able to do this but to my amazement I am not only capable of doing it I love it too. It builds you up a sweat and gets you out of breath. Not only that it also makes you feel so good about yourself, after every session I always yell out YES! because I feel so great. I have noticed my arms and legs are more toned and my whole body shape is changing... for the better. I have already lost over a stone in weight in a month and it just keeps on coming off. I would recommend this to anyone. Can't wait for the second one, about time too!

VHS : Kathy Smith - New Yoga Basics For Beginners [1994]
I am a complete beginner in yoga, and I think that this tape is quite good for beginners. Kathy Smith talks a lot about breathing and gives the standard English names for the various poses she is doing. She stresses that proper form is better than straining, and reminds the viewer constantly to do only what is comfortable and not to strain. For the most part (until the final bit), Kathy goes slowly and explains what you must do pretty well. At the very end, there are a couple of poses which feel rushed and badly explained (she tells you what to do after she has already done it on screen), but this is not a big problem. The music and atmosphere of the tape are calming and not annoying, and there are 2 other participants on screen with Kathy who are unobtrusive (one of them shows the modified ... Read More:
