VHS : Pretty Woman [1990]
I've always had mixed feelings about this film. On the one hand it's a frothy romance that gets great performances out of Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, as well as the excellent supporting cast; it's a feel-good rom-com, playing out the fantasy of making good, love conquering all and changing lives for the better.

But on the other hand when you look at it, it's really morally dubious. The overall message seems to be "You might be a prostitute down on the strip, but all you need is a rich guy and all will be well". The section at the end when Kit de Luca (Vivian's friend) comes by the hotel, to demonstrate how she has grown while Kit has stayed the same, is downright offensive. The idea that life-chances depend upon dreams and ... Read More:

VHS : While You Were Sleeping [1995]
This film is a true romantic comedy classic! All the characters are loveable-especially the two lead roles played by Bullock and Pullman who are both funny and believable. However the film is also successful as a result of many of the smaller comic characters from the Callaghan family and Lucy's friends (especially the cringe-worthy Joe Jr and the loveable Saul) The film is set at christmas which adds a certain magic to the story but is a great watch all year round. Full of fun and romance with a beautiful soundtrack-it is perfect night in movie for all and sure to cause a few tears!!!
Watch and fall in love...

Have to agree with the other reviewer. This film is unpretentious, easy going and not too complicated for the hard of head (a moi). Even though you get the feeling it's missing a bit of a middle, it doesn't really seem to matter (unlike something like MIB which was rendered terrible because of this). I can unashamedly say I love feelgood films that can produce a tear .. and this is one .. Well done .. mr Director.

i thought this was going to be another typical teen film, boy i was wrong. its basically about the most popular boy in school gets dumped by his girlfriend, then he makes a bet with his friends that he can make anyone become the homecoming queen.
of course his friends picks the most nerdy, gorky looking girl for the bet the rest is as it usually is, boy makes nerd popular and gorgeous and ends up falling in love with her. i would recommend this film to anyone i loved it buy its a must

VHS : Breakfast At Tiffany's [1961]
This movie is an absolute must-see for anyone. It combines everything a classic should have - great actors (Audrey is tops and Peppard was never better), a great screenplay, a perfect score and New York (as usual) doing its best. The screenplay departs from the Capote's original but it does so in a way which makes the story work and which could be presented on the screen in 1961 - actually, the story is quite daring for the early 60s but you have to read between the lines every now and then to get it. Anyway, why shouldn't you reach for the original book once you are done watching?
In short - How does it look? I must say I'm amazed.
PS I wouldn't, however, recommend the movie to anyone who wants to quit smoking... ;)
PPS If you need more, you should ... Read More:

I've got a bit of a thing about American teen-related stuff- will happilly talk about MSCL, The Creek or American Pie alongside films like The Silence, Mephisto & Hiroshima, Mon Amour. Blame it on postmodern irony or whatever...

She's All That is the better of the two films, both starring Freddie Prinze Jr in a similar role. It has a better soundtrack (Remy Zero, for example) & more fun elements (Matthew Lillard dancing to Rick James, a cameo from Sarah Michelle Gellar) than Down to You. Plus it has a big bonus in having the gorgeous Rachel Leigh Cook (Josie & The Pussycats) in the lead role- though you know that when those glasses come off etc, a nubile vixen is beneath the outsider-dog (are these people blind?) And you know the lead guy Zach (of course) did ... Read More:

A soppy wonderful romantic story, this is one of my treasured dvds that i play lots. I'm a fan of Streisand and Bridges anyway. Separately they make good films, and paring them together in this film was genius.
