I was expecting really good things of this movie based on its reputation. No doubt the stage show works really well; the potential is clearly there. For me, John Waters messes this up by taking a gross and crude approach of self-parody and ridicule which for me served both to make it less funny and to reduce the impact of the racisim / sizism / corruption message. Subtly camp would have been much sharper, I feel. The pace falls flat, much of it is dull even with the spectacle of Divine the good dancing etc. I suspect I should have watched the 2007 version, which since it is not by John Waters probably does it better, but this has put me off - at least for quite a while.

No matter how many times I watch this film, the charm of it's excessive sentimentality never fails to draw me in. This film is engaging and warm-hearted, bringing us into the life of Evelyn, a gentle and good-natured Southern woman who is going through the menopause, played by Kathy Bates. After going with her husband to a local retirement home to visit one of his relatives, Evelyn meets and befriends an elderly woman named Mrs. Threadgoode, played by Jessica Tandy.

The way in which the film seamlessly flits between past and present is admirable. After befriending each other, the two woman share the details of their lives, and Evelyn learns of the stories of Mrs. Threadgoode's various family members, from long ago, in a tiny little ... Read More:

I thought this film was brilliant, one to watch again and again. The best lesbian rom com I've ever seen. I also loved the storylines going on around the main story.

I bought this movie after I first saw 'Hairspray' (the 1987 original) and thought that Divine was hilarious. However, I did not quite know what to make of this movie, or just what I was letting myself in for - it's SO disgusting and obscene... Not only that; but the story did not make any sense to me either (perhaps it was not meant to) The strange thing is, some years later, I read a review of the film on another Site by someone who pointed out that this movie makes a really good statement about modern society and its obsession in becoming famous; it is a great representation of what people will do to become famous today, and the lengths they will go to! Think about it, and the movie does make some sense - kind of! The only puzzle ... Read More:

6.Majorettes In Space - Five Gay Tales From France [1994] starring: Francois Ozon

VHS : Majorettes In Space - Five Gay Tales From France [1994]
Are you fed up with all the dull, anodyne gay films usually available on video and DVD? This compilation of 5 French short films is a total antidote to the American dross that we're usually fed. Each of the filmmakers treats queer sexuality as something that is much more complex than the usual straightforward boy-meets-boy fare.

The stand out films on the compilation are both by French auteur Francois Ozon. Made long before he became the darling of the arthouse circuit with UNDER THE SAND and 8 WOMEN, A LITTLE DEATH and A SUMMER DRESS are both mini-masterpieces. Although only 15 mins long, A SUMMER DRESS is far more satisfying than most features. It's sexy (VERY sexy, actually), witty and will leave you humming the wonderful French song 'Bang ... Read More:

If you are not a fan of naked men with big, bare buts and wobbly bits, then do not buy this and stop reading now. However, if you salivate over finely honed muscles and the tightest buns in town, then buy this now! Seriously, this video is done with great taste and there is nothing in it that would make a student at a life class blush. This superbly sensual video offers an opportunity to join in the fun at a thoroughly all-American, strictly all-MALE members', after-class sports club with a twist. These guys love wrestling, but do it NUDE! The pretext for all the fun is a ceremonial bottle of beer that the winner gets to grab. The one rule of this club is strictly no pants, but for the lover of naked all-American hunks, this video is not pants. If ... Read More:

8.La Cage Aux Folles [1980] starring: Ugo Tognazzi, Michel Serrault, Claire Maurier, Remi Laurent, Carmen Scarpitta

Ugo Tognazzi and Michel Serrault star as Renato and Albin a middle aged gay couple and proprietors of la Cage Aux Folles, English speaking audiences may recognise the film from the Robin Williams remake. Tognazzi and Serrault's humour is sharper because of the extreme conservatism of their soon to be in-laws and comic timing.

Although the mannerism of the couple are quite dated, this has the classic timing of a comedy of errors like The Mousetrap and well deserves its classic status. By all means watch Robin Williams, but don't let this film pass you by.

This film is one of my favourites as it's so funny and it always puts me in a better mood after I watch it! The gorgeous Johnny Depp is wonderful as Wade 'Cry Baby' Walker who is a drape and catches the eye of sweet Alison, played by Amy Locane and seduces her to the world of 50's rock and fast cars.

This film is highly enjoyable and I would reccomend it to anyone who doesn't take things too seriously!
