VHS : D'Artagnan's Daughter [1995]
La Fille de D'Artagnan was a success in Europe but never got much of a release in the U.S. When the American DVD came out it had a new name, Revenge of the Musketeers. Too bad more people didn't see it. It's a great swashbuckling movie with lots of sword play, shrewd comedy, a clever story and fine acting.

It's the mid-Seventeenth Century in France. Eloise D'Artagnan (Sophie Marceau) is a young woman being educated in a convent when it is attacked and the mother superior killed. She learns there is a plot afoot, vows revenge and sets off to Paris to find her father (Philippe Noiret) and to reunite him with Athos, Aramis and Porthos. The plot thickens as they find not only evil noblemen and a cruel lady in red but that the 16-year ... Read More:

The LOTR triology is one of those stories that you have to watch or read at least once in your life, and as I could never get into the novels I had to settle for watching the films instead - and they were incredible. The conclusion to the story does not let down it's previous installments and is more than a worthy ending for the trilogy. These are fantastic films that should be held up as an example of just how moving films can be if made correctly. A story I will always come back to. Incredible.

this is truly one of the funniest films I have EVER seen....insane plot and exceptionally OTT acting. I cannot fathom why it was given an '18' certificate apart from the fact that a couple of expletives have been dubbed OVER the original audio track- fantastic. An audacious achievement and a tasty slice of Reaganesque propaganda- GO BUY FORTHWITH!

'Death Wish'. The title really sums up the whole film, and how violent its going to be. Thats not a problem though as this is a great film and by now is definately, in my eyes if no one elses, an all time classic.

It stars Charles Bronson as Paul Kersey who turns from a normal everyday man to an urban vigilante who deals out some real justice after his wife is murdered and his daughter-in-law is raped by some thugs.

The acting in this film is great, especially from Charles Bronson, who really shows the emotions of Kersey well, and as i'm sure you already know, the audience, (well me anyway) have no trouble believing that Paul Kersey could really do such a thing because how can they not when Bronson is playing the role.

If I could, I would give this movie 100 stars. There's nothing I can really say that hasn't already been said - so I'll sum up the trilogy in a few words.

Epic. Beautiful. Masterpiece.

A true diamond of modern cinema.

Yes it is a bold statement to make but this really is the best film I have seen.

The great cast, the way it was filmed, the music, the emotion - it just has it all. Cannot fault it whatsoever.

Let's hope some day they release the full six hour version on DVD!

VHS : Young Indiana Jones - Treasure Of The Peacock's Eye
This begins moments from the end of WW I. Indy and his best friend Remmy, find a treasure map from a dieing man in no man's land. His mysterious words, "The eye of the peacock" send them off on a treasure hunt for the lost diamond of Alexander the great. It is a classic Indy adventure. He and Remmy encounter pirates, natives, puzzle solving, and rival hunters. This is a roller coaster ride from the start to almost the finish, the end is much slower and has no action sequences at all. However, instead it has Indy make the life changing decision of his future career. Despite the disapointing end, this is still one of the best Young Indiana Jones adventures around, and comes incredibly close to the 5 star award. A must for any Indy fan!!!

VHS : Batman [1989]
Batman has always been a vastly over-rated movie and I find it difficult to understand how it garnered such positive reviews on it's release . Having watched this recently on TV it seems like a good time to look again at this disappointing film.
It has many flaws but chief among these is the casting of 80's "it girl" Kim Basinger. She almost single handedly ruins this film with her unbelievably poor performance, coming across like some am dram second rater. Michael Keaton does some of his best work but is scuppered in the Batman role by a Batsuit which allows extremely limited movement of body and none of neck whatsoever. He walks around like he has a washboard stuck up his back, completely not his fault I understand. Jack Nicholson's Joker is dressed in cheap looking ... Read More:
