VHS : Miller's Crossing [1990]
This is not a great movie.

I watched Blood Simple for the first time a few weeks ago and really enjoyed watching Francis McDermott. She was fantastic in Fargo. Fargo was a great movie with all the right moves, excellent tone, bizarre characters, and a flatly affected but very strong pregnant cop played by McDermott. The Coen brothers are known for their slightly off-kilter films. Raising Arizona with Nicholas Cage and Holly Hunter was a very successful and entertaining quirky movie. Strange characters and bizarre situations can be very entertaining. The formula just doesn't work in Miller's Crossing.

Gabriel Byrne stars as a dirtball gangster. He's the slimey no. 2 to Albert Finney in Finney's massive gangster world. ... Read More:

The first time I saw this film was in germany as a teenager,
I was sitting around bored stiff and looking for something to do,
so I thought I'd look through mydads video collection and found
"eye of the tiger" and I immediately liked the look of the cover
,(gary busey and a kickass monster truck- old VHS cover btw)
and when you're around 14 it doesnt really matter what the films
plot is as long as it has a good cover its going to jump into your vcr.

Anyway,
I sat down to watch the film and was immediately enthralled,
ok so it wasnt the most original film i'd seen (but like i said back then
I didnt care).

The basic plot was, Man goes to prison for a crime he didnt commit, ... Read More:

VHS : Bend Of The River [1952]
Bend of the River is in many ways Anthony Mann's `nicest' Western, but underneath the gorgeous Technicolor location work there's a darker side to Stewart's border raider desperate to reform and his relationship with friendly enemy Arthur Kennedy that threatens fireworks to come - and when they do, in the last 20 minutes, there's no problem in believing the depth of Stewart's rage or the relentlessness of his pursuit. Shot on many of the same locations as the even darker The Far Country, it's still terrific entertainment. Stepinfetchit's role is a little uncomfortable, but compared to the humiliation inflicted upon him in other pictures he's allowed a bit more dignity here than usual, closer to Hank Worden's Old Mose Harper in The Searchers than the racial ... If you like fast paced films with lots of action, then you should really enjoy this movie.Maggie Cheung once again plays the part of Jackie Chans girlfriend who is kidnapped by a gang. The only way Jackie can save her is by collecting a large ransom which the gang are demanding from a large corporation.
With an explosive device strapped to him he has no choice but to do what they want. However, at the same time there are many comical scenes in this great movie. Well worth buying.

VHS : The Last Samurai [2004]
General I am not the greatest fan of Tom Cruise (this is actually the only film of his I will willingly watch) but I am a great fan of Japanese history and culture and although this film makes Braveheart and 300 look historically accurate in places I still greatly enjoyed it and consider it to be one of my all time favourite films.

The film sees the drunken American Army Captain Nathan Algren hired by the modernising Japanese government to train their troops to fight the rebel Samurai leader Katsumoto. When Algren is captured in battle, however, he comes to get to know his enemy and get to know the Samurai way of life.

As I have already stated I am a fan of Far Eastern history and as such I must say that this film does terribly butcher this ... Read More:

This film is without doubt the worst Jackie Chan movie Ive ever seen and Im not even a chan fan, I am a forlani fan though and thats how it managed a one star! But the worst part of this film is the Irish accent now we know the yanks have an awfull Irish accent that even the Corkonians would cringe at but at least they try, Evans spoke in a worst 'west brit' accent imaginable! Low budget...Maybe, Tripe...Oh yeah!!
