VHS : The Famous Five - Five Go To Smuggler's Top - Parts 1 and 2
Once again Zenith North, the UK-based production team for this series of the televised Famous Five books, has excelled. True to the books in all but a few minor details, this series takes us back to the 1940's idyll in which children played from dawn till dusk in the heat of a glorious British summer.

In this double-bill, we meet the Five - Julian, Dick, George, Anne, and Timmy the dog - on their way to "Smugglers Top", a "rambling sort of a place", according to the children's Uncle Quentin, where they have been sent for the summer holidays. But all is not well at this ancient smugglers' haunt, where strange lights, mysterious marshes and underground tunnels abound. Team up with the Famous Five and discover who ... Read More:

I honestly wasn't expecting much out of this. So I was very suprised when I loved it from start to finish! It has everything we have come to expect of a classic Disney film.. a strong hero/heroine, a hilarious sidekick character, a great soundtrack and a beautiful display of animation. Yes, it really is a great film, with a powerful story and some great characters. Highly recommended.

I remember, not so long ago, watching this as a child every day... why they ever discontinued it is a mystery to me, it is much better than the tweeties/tellietubbies ever could be!!
The graphics and puppets, watching back, are not very realistic, but as a child i truly never noticed it. I once even saw it being filmed, and it didn't spoil it for me.

Playdays is pure gold which every generation should enjoy.

Personally I wasn't all that impressed with Bob, but my nephews go mad over him, so I thought I'd let my daughter give this one a try. She sings "Bob the Builder" all the time and seems to prefer him over other characters meant more for girls.

I caught this showing on the Disney Channel a while ago and encouraged my 5 year old daughter to watch it rather than those repetitive children's programmes. She was entranced! The cast of different races is so refreshing and is great to see in a Disney movie (I am black carribean myself). Since then, we check when it's due to come on again and sit down to watch it. The cast has some fantastic singers, including Whitney Houston - one of the best. I'm so glad I can now buy the DVD rather than hoping to see it again on TV. A great family film!

Very sweet adaptation by Disney of these stories with their usual catchy songs. Especially the song with Ichabod Crane! You won't forget that in a hurry!

VHS : Bonjour Les Amis 1 - French Made Fun [1991]
I used this video as a child, and I believe I was bought the series for Christmas when I was 5. My sister (then 2) also used to watch the series.
I used it frequently and I remember loving it - for a previous review on this site to say that children of the target age group would find it repetitive and switch it off sounds like rubbish to me and suggests that the writer of that particular review doesn't have any experience with using the video with the target age group.
I remember liking the cartoons and the songs and at the age of 21 I'm pretty sure it put me on the road to my enthusiasm and passion for learning French. It's fantastic and they really should release it on DVD!

VHS : Slipper and the Rose
This is a truly enchanting musical version of the Cinderella story. I first watched this as a young girl and I've recently watched the DVD a number of times. I was amazed that even though over 10 years have passed I remembered most of the story, including song lyrics and dialogue...obviously it made a big impression on me the first time around! Watching the film as an adult is a real treat. There is a lavish quality to every aspect - from the beautiful costumes to the stunning landscape and gauzy cinematography. It makes me laugh and it makes me cry and, by the end, I'm cheering!

The Slipper and The Rose is the kind of film that appeals to adults as well as children. There are many funny jokes and clever songs that are great to sing along to. ... Read More:
