VHS : The Muppet Christmas Carol (1993) (Disney) [1992]
It's amazing how a green puppet with pingpong balls as eyes can always make me cry when I see this movie. The performance of Kermit's nephew as Tiny Tim is exactly that, a performance, a great piece of acting, made by a sock, as moving as anything you could think of. Lots of today actors should learn from Tiny Tim how to act. Or from Michael Caine. This, along with Sleuth and The man who would be king is his best performance ever. And The Great Gonzo as Dickens is surprisingly accurate. Rizzo the rat is also very funny, without spoiling at all the meaning of the story.
As I haven't got the DVD I'm reviewing the video release, and I can give five stars to the film easily. It simply has the magic of Christmas inside. I'm now 31, and Christmas ... Read More:

VHS : A Bug's Life [1999]
Some people consider "Bug's Life" as not being on the same level of quality as other Pixar productions, but I really can not agree with them. My daughter clearly wouldn't agree either. This is a very funny movie, with a lot of interesting innovations (we will never look at bugs in the same way, me and my family) and a kind of surprising kindness - even the bad guys are shown with some understanding (having chosen the life of parasite racketeers, they are now trapped by it - as much as their ant victims). The principal hero is possibly one of the most likeable characters I ever saw. A little warning - there is one scene at the end, of the final demise of the leader of grasshoppers, that can impress the littlest children (under 6) - otherwise this movie is just ... Read More:

VHS : Aladdin And The King Of Thieves (1996) (Disney)
Before I begin, I'd just like to clarify that this is the third Aladdin film. It was always Disney's intentions to have an Aladdin trilogy - there are NOT five films!

In this third outing Aladdin and Jasmine finally get married only to be disrupted by the forty thieves who's leader just so happens to be Aladdin's father...

I thought the story of this film was very good and the humour is just fantastic (provided by the genie in Robin Williams naturally). Unlike other Disney sequels all of the original voice cast return. Some new characters are established also, rather than having to rely on old villains. These are most notably the forty thieves who are just hilarious.

After sequels like 'Return to Neverland' and 'Jungle Book 2', you'll ... Read More:

This is definitely to be watched while burning incense sticks and eating something very hot. I will not go into print recommending anything stronger than this, but you get my drift...

This stuff is completely mind blowing, black and white, whatever... For a start, the music is really that kind of thing that gently lulls you into another world. It may be understated flamenco, but it has this subdued and mystical quality which is definitely from the other side of the fence. Combined with Johnnie Morris's amazing voice, which is so gentle and irresistable, well, you are crazy if you don't go for this, and crazy if you do. Who knows?... It's like a souped up version of William Blake, uneven maybe, but most certainly impressive and great art.

Me? Well, ... Read More:

VHS : Batman And Mr Freeze: Sub Zero
Lighter than and not as good as "Batman Mask of the Phantasm" Sub-Zero is essentially one long big attempt to rescue Barbara Gordon from the clutches of Mr. Freeze. Batman doesn't really have much to do until the end and does much of the detective work in the guise of Bruce Wayne. All the acting is up to par and the animation is fine.
But this is Batman light and there is little of the adult undercurrent that made the aniamted series so rewarding. Compare Sub-Zero with episodes like "Two-Face" and "Robin's Reckoning" you could find Sub-Zero laking in depth.
Sub-Zero is one really for the kids.
