VHS : On The Town [1949]
This is one of my favourite movies. Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly, where can you go wrong? Frank is adorable in this movie and Gene is, how shall I say, hot! It has excellent songs in it, my fav being 'Modern man'. It's no Singing in the rain, but definatley worth an oggle.

103.Dead Of Night [1945] starring: Michael Redgrave, Roland Culver, Mervyn Johns, Googie Withers, Frederick Valk

VHS : Dead Of Night [1945]
i think this is a fantastic film. The quality is pretty bad which is an awful shame but the story itself still scares me each time i watch it. I decided to take myself off to my room last night with a cup of tea and this film and for the entirety of the film i was scared witless. I do admit i am scared by a lot of films but there is something so completely compelling and unlike anything else about black and white suspense and horror. I am an avid movie fan full stop although b&w still comes up tops in my favourite style or genre and this film simply regaled all my feelings of admiration for a good old classic film. Brilliant!

VHS : Laurel And Hardy - Their First Mistake / Brats / Twice Two - Restored Version [1932]
Up until now I have only ever seen Laurel and Hardy in Black and White. These colour films are a great new experience. You appear to see much more detail.

"Their First Mistake" is the first film on the tape. My favourite part is when the lights go out and Ollie trips and makes an awful noise and wakes the baby and the neighbourhood.

The next story "Brats" is unusual as Stan and Ollie play their own children as well as themselves. The "kids" look just like Laurel and Hardy in a giant's house!

"Twice Two" is my favourite of the three. This time the boys play each other's wives as well as themselves. One of funniest scenes is when Stan's wife (Fanny) gets a cake on her head and she looks like the old picture ... Read More:

VHS : Yankee Doodle Dandy [1942]
This is the best film ever but try as I might I can not get hold of it for region 2. If anyone knows where or how I can find this film to play on my DVD player, here in England, I would be grateful.
Same goes for "My Beautiful Son" AKA "Strange Relations" in the American market.

106.Doctor Who - Silver Nemesis (The Extended Version) [1988] [1963] starring: Sylvester McCoy, Sopjie Aldred, Anton Diffring, Courtney Pine, Fiona Walker

VHS : Doctor Who - Silver Nemesis (The Extended Version) [1988] [1963]
It's hard to believe that "Silver Nemesis" got less than 5 stars average rating. This is an exceptionally good show, especially when you consider that it comes from the Sylvester McCoy era, where most shows were real stinkers! The lovely and attractive Ace is certainly a welcome addition, and the contrasting dialog between her and the Silver Nemesis sent chills up my spine. When Ace says, "Catch you later" to the Silver Nemesis, it's both funny and scary because we know Ace didn't know what to say. If you were faced with the Silver Nemesis you wouldn't know what to say either. It gives us a sense that these characters are very much out of time from each other, and have come together to do what they are suppose to do. Not everyone enjoys this form of entertainment, ... VHS : The Killing Of Sister George [1968]
This film is absolutely brilliant and completely groundbreaking. It's hard to believe that it takes a small country like Great Britain to produce the best movies but we certainly showed Hollywood a thing or two back in the sixties when we were the centre of the universe. The performances and storyline in this faultless piece of celluloid make it unmissable and one that anybody would be proud to own in their DVD collection.

109.Stella Dallas [1937] starring: Barbara Stanwyck, John Boles, Anne Shirley, Barbara O'Neil, Alan Hale

VHS : Stella Dallas [1937]
Stella Dallas is a sad tale of a woman who wishes to get on in life but her working class background holds her back. However, the love she has for her only daughter is unrelenting until she finally realises the child will be best with the father. This is a heartbreaking moment and any mother will find it hard to hold back the tears.

I love this movie and cry from beginning to end!

Barbara Stanwyck is truly wonderful as the brash, no style, Stella!

VHS : The Maltese Falcon [1941]
At least for two reasons, "The Maltese Falcon" is a milestone in the evolution of American genre cinema. First, this is one of the very first pictures that ushered the era of classic film noir. Its bizarre characterizations, twisty plot and cliché-drenched events serve as a perfect template that has been utilized in countless films through six decades after its making. Second, this is the movie that catapulted Humphrey Bogart's career into stardom. He had been a strong supporting character, mostly playing villains (as in "High Sierra" & "The Petrified Forest"). After his performance as hard-boiled private eye Sam Spade, he became a major star.

The movie represents a complex study of human psyche, especially taking a dismal look at human greed and pursuit of self-interest ... Read More:
