VHS : The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie [1969]
This very rich confection is memorable and is more of a movie experience than a simple movie, because just as the all time great movies do, it grips you emotionally. There are faults you can find in it, certainly, but when it's finished you are still with it, and this has most to do with the affecting performance of Smith, which is intense, emotional and even a tad theatrical. It didn't follow the book very closely, its direction is quite stolid, you can't ignore the 'acting' of Maggie Smith, and some find the Rod McKewen song a bit intrusive and maybe even incongruous with the period of the film, but you remember this movie and remember the experience of watching it.

VHS : The Towering Inferno [1975]
Due to an alleged stupid dispute between Warners and 20th Century Fox over who owns the UK rights to the Towering Inferno this magnificent 2 disc set is unavaible in the UK except on Region 1 import. But it is well worth the effort to get hold of one.
Beautifully packaged, with the main feature remastered and a host of fascinating extras, far to many to go into detail about on disc 2, plus a set of lobby cards, this is the ultimate Towering Inferno set and one that every fan of this classic disaster movie should own.

VHS : Waterloo Bridge [1940]
Watched it quite by accident one Sunday morning. Found it so sad. Although I could half guess what was going to happen, I was wishing that Robert Taylor was going to save Vivian Leigh in time. Must admit it really upset me. Was really sad for her, but also for him in that he still loved her after all that time. Think I will stop now before I get upset all over again!

VHS : Room At The Top [1959]

Probably one of the most tragically romantic movies ever made - thanks to the beautiful actress Simone Signoret, who gives one of her most sincerest performances ever here, as she plays Alice Aisgill, whose unfortunate love-life is doomed to end in tragedy... Another outstanding actress who gave one of her finest performances captured in one fiery scene was Hermione Baddeley (who ironically in real life went on to have an affair with Laurence Harvey - a most unpredictable match if ever there was one)

Joe Lampton (Harvey) is a social climber who's bent on getting the cash as well as the girl! He does not care whose toes he treads on to get there - except perhaps that of Alice Aisgill (Signoret) who unintentionally gets in the way of his plans at the ... Read More:

VHS : Till Death Us Do Part [1969]
I saw this film in England several years ago (I hadn't even heard about the tv serial) and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I've been hoping to find it on dvd ever since. Last night I ended up discussing the film with an English mate of mine in a Brussels bar, and he told me the film is now banned in Britain, because it's not p.c. I sincerely hope this is not the case. The film never shocked me and it did NOT turn me into a racist.

VHS : Little Dorrit - Part 1 [1990]
I have attended two films - and only two - where at the conclusion of the film the audience stood up and applauded. One was 'Lawrence of Arabia', the other was both parts of this interpretation of 'Little Dorrit'.
I appeal to those who can make it happen to release this magnificent film on DVD.
Little Dorrit is, in my opinion, not only The greatest novel that Dickens wrote (having a slight edge over Bleak house, Great Expectations, and Our Mutual Friend) but the greatest novel in the English language. It is assuredly a worthy competitor to the works of Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy and Flaubert.
It seems to me that although the film takes 'liberties' with the text and has major omissions the spirit of the book prevails. The idea of 'splitting' the film into two parts ... Read More:
