VHS : Carry On Abroad [1972]
This is definately my favourite of all of the Carry On Films. It is laughter from the moment it starts.
Kenneth Williams as Stuart Farquhar is fantastic especially when Peter Butterworth as the Spanish Hotel owner says 'Stupid What? when he first introduces his name.
Joan Sims and Sid James as husband and wife are hysterical and the scene where Sid smashes through the patio window when he thinks it hasnt got any glass in it, is superb........Joan Sims laughter really makes that scene and its so contageous.
The whole supporting cast are brilliant and there really is not just one star of this film they are all great. (Lovely Bernard Breslaw as Brother Bernard and the beautiful Carol Hawkins as the girl he takes a shine to....so ... Read More:

Harry H. Corbett has always been a favourite of mine; he was a fine and talented actor. Alongside Ronnie Barker and Eric Sykes, set on the canals of England, it would be difficult to find a better setting. An excellent supporting cast, a witty and moral story, I was surprised at how pleasing and enjoyable this film turned out to be.

If you want a fun film, with beautiful settings, the feel and romance of "Old" England, this has to be a must watch. I never tire of it, especially the happy ending!

93.Grumpier Old Men [1995] starring: Walter Matthau, Jack Lemmon, Ann-Margret, Sophia Loren, Burgess Meredith

Do you think grumpy is natural? Think again. Learn from the experts, Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. They really make an odd couple" Odd Couple II, The - Neil Simon's" (1998). Who knew they could just get grumpier. And a new cutie has been added to the mix for this second in the grumpy series.

This film is another example of the so called critics and professional film reviewers getting it so wrong by completely discrediting the merits of a truely impressive film. True, the film is darker, the humour is more subdued and harder to spot but that is what helps make this movie a great film. So it flopped at the cinema ... who cares!! So it got rubbished by the critics ... well if Ive learned anything; I leaned not to listen to critics. Always judge a movie yourself, dont listen to some pretentious critic who doesnt know his arse from his elbow.

In my opinion this is Carrey's best movie to date.

VHS : Laurel And Hardy - Big Business / From Soup To Nuts / Do Detectives Think? [1929]
The fact that all three films on this tape are silents may be offputting to some, but rest assured that one film at least deserves to stand with their best sound shorts. 'Big Business' is simply hilarious as Stan and Ollie as christmas tree salesmen indulge in a tit-for-tat binge of destruction with James Finlayson.
The other two films are entertaining, though the best ideas were used again to better effect in later films ( compare the graveyard scene in 'Do Detectives Think' with that in the later silent 'Habeous Corpus'). The films do show Stan and Ollie developing their characters (though Ollie's appears to have emerged almost fully formed) and we also can watch the evolution of Stan's haircut.
Worth buying for 'Big Business' alone.

VHS : Eddie Izzard - Unrepeatable [1994]
This was recorded in March 1994, and its the earliest Eddie Izzard stand-up concert you can buy. However, Eddie is already a fully formed comic genius, in this his first released stage show.

Hilarious, frequently surreal (but still funny) this is a show to watch to cheer yourself up:
The Cat is behind the Sofa drilling. Owner comes round to look, Cat stops drilling. Owner - "Were you drilling Cat?" Cat - "Why would I be drilling I'm a Cat - no thats purring you're thinking of" Owner walks away, Cat puts goggles back on and carries on drilling.

The original Star Trek series is given a good workout by Izzard, ending the show with a series of unusal settings for phasers, a few of which are: 'Bit of a cough', 'Ice Cream Van arrives', ... Read More:

I wasn't expecting to like this movie at all, despite having enjoyed the no-brainer laughathon that was the Scary Movie series. However, I must say I was pleasantly surprised!
The story looks deservedly ridiculous on paper; two black partners go undercover as white society girls in order to crack a case. The Wayans brothers look suitably demented as a couple of priviledged rich gals, although... they are also oddly convincing. The comedy comes from the expected sources; the guys trying to convince "their" friends that they are indeed the same girls they've spent every Hamptons summer with; how they deal with the men who fall in love with them; how they deal with the women they fall in love with! Despite the plot being wholly predictable, much belly-laughs ensue, ... Read More:

VHS : Holiday On The Buses [1973]

The last, but ironically and undoubtedly the funniest of the 'On The Buses' trilogy of the block buster movies.

'Holiday On The Buses' - as the title suggests, takes place away from the usual depot. Olive and Arthur's baby has now grown to a small child who wreaks havoc in a rented apartment, and just after they've re-decorated! Stan, Jack and 'Blakey' all get the sack from their old jobs, only to find new ones, but to poor 'Blakey's' horror - end up reunited once again! Stan's mum has a final fling with an Irish over-sexed gent (Wilfred Brambell) which leads to some hilarious scenes on the dance floor! This also stars Queenie Watts and Arthur Mullard. Pat Ashton is noticeably absent.

Look out for Michael Robbins' side-burns ... Read More:

I remember watching these black & white 20 minute short movies on TV as a child and laughing my socks off. 40 years on and they have not lost their sparkle with the passage of time. Now my own kids are howling and laughing at their antics. The videos have been digitally enhanced so the quality is excellent. They are now pride of my video collection and when I am feeling low, I reach for this video to cheer me up.
