Still my favourite film almost twenty-five years after its release. Nice to see so many other people also rate it so highly. Makes you wish you were there on Scotland's west coast.

VHS : The Princess Bride [1987]
This is one of those genius crossover pieces, made for children but with such witty dialogue and wordplay it is probably more often rewatched by adults.

So if you want masked men, giants, scheming princes, cunning sicillians, spanish swordsmasters, six-fingered men, swooning damsels, cynical miracle workers, depraved torturers, speech-challenged priests, not to mention, rodents of unusual size, this is the film for you.

It is "inconceivable" you will come away from this movie without remembering a line or two.

Intellgent cast, good pacing, great script.

VHS : Bend It Like Beckham [2002]
I'd been after this film for some time, and was pleased to be able to pick it up cheaply at the supermarket earlier this week. I was somewhat surprised when my mother (not, as far as I know, a fan of the cross-cultural sporting coming-of-age genre) said that she wanted to watch it last night. It turns out that someone had told her that it had been made around where we grew up in West London (Hayes, Southall, Hounslow, Heathrow - how those names mix memory and desire). Neither of us were disappointed - it's an excellent comedy, with some deft touches.

The story isn't perhaps the most original creation, but the merit of the acting is that it has you caring about what happens to the characters. Parminder Nagra is particularly good, although ... Read More:

VHS : The First Wives Club [1996]
A dynamite cast and a great script make a great comedy, and The First Wives Club is just that. Having Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler and Diane Keaton together for a picture should guarantee that the film is going to be something special, and it is, a witty, breezy comedy about women getting even with their philandering spouses. Although the film can be perceived as very anti-men, it manages to even out the put-downs with some sparkling humour, even though the men in this film are portrayed as not very bright creatures. Another reason to watch it is the amazing supporting cast of first rate players, ranging from Maggie Smith and Sarah Jessica Parker, to Stephen Collins and the great Stockard Channing in a brief but memorable role (she plays too many of these, she needs ... VHS : The Chain [1984] [1985]
The story of a gang of moving men in London. Warren Mitchell is on great form as the mover who reads and quotes Plato, Aristotle and the Greek philosophers to his long suffering workmates.

Really a series of comic stories. At each house they go to they encounter one of the seven deadly sins, Lust, envy, greed, anger etc.. As they encounter them the moving men led by Warren Mitchell smooth out the problems and keep the chain moving.....

I will say no more I don't want to spoil the film by giving away too much.

Well worth buying. Warren Mitchell plays the part as only he can. I consider this to be one of my all time great comedies. I cant wait for it to be released in the USA .
