This has a slow start and moves very slowly and gently through a gentle sweet story about the relationship of a japanese daughter and her father. Surprisingly modern in some aspects.

yeah i love this watched it when it was on tv so had to buy it! i must say though when it arrived the owner didnt rewind it for me! but nevermind! wish it came out on dvd though, so it lasts longer! Love it and you can watch it again and again!

I found the film a fantastic interpretation of how completly loanly, trapped, and not forgetting just how fearfull someone would feel if in this situation. Julia Roberts portrat of this charector was excelent she brought out all sorts of emotions from my feeling fear, hurt, worthless, anger, I felt I was alongside her charector wanting to help her I found myself shouting at the screen on a number of accasions, also the way I was made to feel towards the husband was quiet real. The ending was outstanding I got to the point of very vilent thoughts being made towards the husband. A great insight to how domestic vilence can be at this extream and how difficult it would be for the wife to escape the violence the amount of planing it would take and ... Read More:

This film deserves so much more credit for what it achieves from Huxley's original. While some of the performances are a little shakey, this film represents one of the great Oliver Reed's finest moments - he exudes power and sexuality as Grandier, and the film achieves some particularly powerful/disturbing moments in the depiction of the ergot-addled nunnery. HOWEVER... This film has truly been victimised by the censors and there is Still no DVD version available - surely with the garbage which the censors let through these days this film can be restored and re-released?

A lovely film. Michael Caine does a wonderful job playing the self-destructive but intelligent and warmhearted Dr Frank Bryant, and Julie Walters immerses herself in the character of Rita, a lively and witty hairdresser who decides to enroll in an open University course. The script is perfect, making for a touching film full of insights into human relationships, hopes and desires. As an aside, for anyone familiar with Dublin, the film was shot in the city, mostly in Trinity College, which is fun to see as it was in the 80s, and works as a perfect setting for the film.

this is a brilliant film, the crazed stalker of clint eastwood who appears everywhere he goes and somehow in her deluded world believes that they are both meant to be together after just a one night stand. It's a chilling fim and does remind me ever so slightly of 'fatal attraction' which is another brilliant, tense piece of art. This is totally heart-stopping, watch it!!!

Picture this: Circa 1975, A class of 32 bored, inner city school, O level English kids, dragged off to an arts cinema to see a showing of Polanski's Macbeth. We settled down for a boring couple of hours messing about and talking. Five minutes into the film, you could have heard a pin drop. We were hooked. We went from complete disinterest, to shakespeare fans in one afternoon. I will always be grateful to that young english teacher (whatever her name was?) for igniting a lifelong interest in literature. If our Headmaster/parents had known what we were going to see, I'm sure the trip would never have happened!
