VHS : Jack The Ripper [1988]
I watched it on TV and purchased the DVD and watched it 3 times consecutively for 9 hours! A great well-balanced production. I would have given 5 stars if only the DVD had included subtitles features..

182.Naked [1993] starring: David Thewlis, Lesley Sharp, Katrin Cartlidge, Greg Cruttwell, Claire Skinner

VHS : Naked [1993]
I cannot for the life of me understand all the 5 star reviews. This film comprises a rediculously unbelieveable script populated with unbelieveable, 2-dimensional, cliched characters and executed with heavy, wooden performances. Is this what happens when artistic folk conspire to create "gritty" and "real" drama. The total running time of nearly two and a half hours makes this ham-fisted effort almost unwatchable

183.The Turnaround [1995] starring: Clive Owen, Bill Paterson, Rowena King, John Salthouse, Matthew Marsh
directed by: Suri Krishnamma

VHS : Bicycle Thieves [1948]
Truly magical and emotional exploration of life in post war Italy. wonderfully filmed and great story. The extras are worth a look as they have a bit on revisiting the scene many years later. Classic and well worth seeing.

VHS : The Tin Drum [1995]
THE TIN DRUM (or DIE BLECHTROMMEL, by it's german title) is a film that not everyone has heard of, and if they have, not likely to have seen it. If you have heard of this film, then don't try to presume anything about it because you will never have seen anything like this before, and never likely to see anything like it again.

Oskar Matzerath (Bennent) is a three-year-old boy who carefully observes the behaviour of the adult world during the rise of the Nazis in 1920's Germany. Disgusted by what he sees, he throws himself down the cellar steps in order to stop himself growing, and he succeeds. Oskar continues his observations of adults as he ages like a normal human being, but he is still in the body of a three-year-old, which makes for something ... Read More:

I first watched this film back in 1998 on TV and recently tracked it down on DVD and bought a copy.

It is a beautiful story of a tentative romance between an unlikely couple with Caroline, the unlucky in love waitress, and Adam, the kitchen hand, who is a shy, withdrawn individual who admires Caroline from afar.

I guess the reason the film appeals to me is because you can relate to the characters, their ordinary lives and the positive message regarding relationships and love. The pacing of the film is perfect, its small town setting is convincing and the supporting cast if a little sparse, also make their contribution.

A great film.
